The Newport News Sheriff's Office has an immediate opening for an experienced, dedicated civilian Control Room Operator position. The Sheriff's Office operates two jail facilities housing over 500 inmates.
The Newport News Sheriff's Office Control Room is the "nerve center" of the facility. The Control Operator's have considerable responsibility for maintaining perimeter security, for controlling movement within the facility, for monitoring life-safety systems and for key control. Much of the Control Room Operators time is devoted to the door control function: acknowledging door control intercom calls, making positive identification of the person requesting doors be opened, and opening doors. Operators are responsible for monitoring cameras, coordinating communication between units, and maintaining security of both the Newport News City Jail and Jail Annex.
