Satellite Customer Operations Support Engineer (Lead)

The Satellite Customer Operations Support Engineer (Lead) is the satellite on-orbit customer's main point of contact with Boeing and is responsible for day-to-day customer interaction with commercial, civil, and DoD customers of Boeing Space Mission Systems (SMS).
This position is responsible for responding to engineering and operations questions and providing guidance and recommendations for addressing off-nominal situations. The lead must be available to customers 24/7/365 and be able to respond quickly to critical anomalies, pulling together a response team to address the anomaly. Though there are subsystem experts available to support, the lead is expected to be able to provide timely systems engineering responses and typically has expertise in key subsystems such as propulsion, attitude controls, guidance and navigation, or power system.
As a being a lead, you will be exposed to more overall aspects of satellite system and subsystem operations quicker than most other positions at Boeing. Leads are responsible for a portfolio of customers and satellites, managing tasking and priorities of customer requests and leading investigations and Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA). The lead must communicate well at levels including customers, local management, peers, support staff, and executives. The lead requires good organizational/multi-tasking skills.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Performs engineering and technical activities in the areas of customer asset monitoring, anomaly investigations and operations improvements to a wide range of customer assets.
  • Engages with satellite customers and operators to ensure Boeing provides excellent technical support.
  • Provides timely 24/7 prompt response to address customer issues.
  • Provides clear and concise written and verbal technical communication with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Manages to a defined budget.
  • Promulgate engineering best practices and efficiencies across the business that will deliver containment, proactive and preventative solutions to customers' operations and assets.
  • Provides feedback on product performance to enhance future spacecraft design by actively monitoring data and working with program teams and new business.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in El Segundo, CA.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. A final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 3+ years of experience in Space/Satellite systems.
  • 1+ years of experience working with Real-time Satellite or Space Systems Operations.
  • 3+ years of experience with propulsion GNC, Avionics design/integration.
  • 1+ years of experience interacting directly with external customers

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience):
  • Current active DoD clearance or Tier 5 security investigation.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong Communication, Adaptability, Decision Making, Customer Focus, Integrated Systems, Engineering Analysis, and Requirements/Tracing skillset.
  • Strong background in several of the following areas: satellite mission operations including CONOPS development, astrodynamics, orbital mechanics, analysis and simulation, spacecraft dynamics, or mission systems engineer roles, and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA).
  • Experience in development and/or operations of Boeing satellite products (e.g. 601, 601HP, 702, 702SP, mPower, etc)
  • 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
