What is a trading card job?

A Trading Cards job typically involves working with collectible card games or sports trading cards in roles such as sorting, grading, selling, or marketing. Employees may work for card manufacturers, retailers, or authentication companies. Responsibilities can include handling inventory, verifying authenticity, pricing cards, or engaging with collectors. Some positions focus on digital trading card platforms or e-commerce management. The job requires attention to detail, knowledge of the card industry, and often a passion for collectibles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a trading card position?

To excel in a trading cards specialist or dealer role, you need in-depth knowledge of collectible trading cards, strong market research abilities, and keen attention to detail, often supported by experience in retail, collectibles, or sales. Familiarity with inventory management software, online marketplaces (such as eBay and TCGplayer), and grading services (like PSA or Beckett) is highly valuable. Outstanding interpersonal skills, salesmanship, and customer service help build client relationships and ensure successful transactions. These capabilities are crucial for accurately valuing cards, maximizing sales, and maintaining customer trust in a competitive collectibles market.

What are the typical career advancement opportunities in the trading cards industry?

Professionals in the trading cards industry often start in entry-level positions such as retail clerks or assistant buyers and can progress to roles like store manager, inventory supervisor, or trading card specialist. With experience, some individuals transition to becoming buyers for larger retail chains, open their own trading card businesses, or specialize in areas like authentication, grading, or high-value auctions. Career growth can also lead to roles in product distribution, event management (like organizing trading card conventions), or consulting for online marketplaces. Advancing in this field generally requires a combination of industry knowledge, networking, and strong sales performance.

Job Description

We’re looking for a Social Media Coordinatorto bring our trading card content to life on social — especially Instagram. This role is all about execution: capturing cards on camera, creating scroll-stopping short-form video, designing clean visuals, and writing captions that resonate with collectors and fans.

You’ll be deeply immersed in the trading card world, translating hobby knowledge, product moments, and community energy into social-first content that feels timely, authentic, and engaging. This is a hands-on, in-office rolebased in Tigard, Oregon, working closely with teammates across marketing, creative, and sales to keep our channels fresh, relevant, and culturally plugged in.

What you’ll be doing
  • Capture and edit high-quality photo and video content of trading cards optimized for Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Own social content execution from idea to post— filming, editing, light graphic design, caption writing, headline creation, and publishing.
  • Program and schedule content on Instagram, maintaining a consistent posting cadence aligned with key moments and releases.
  • Stay deeply connected to the trading card space by tracking trends, product launches, community conversations, and collector sentiment.
  • Partner with internal teams to support business and marketing needs across social media.
  • Maintain brand voice, visual standards, and quality control across all social posts.
  • Monitor engagement and assist with basic community management, including comments and DMs.
What you’ll bring
  • A genuine passion (and understanding) for trading cards and hobby culture (sports cards, TCGs, collectibles).

You’ve spent time capturing and editing short-form social video — whether for a brand, a page, or your own account. especially for Instagram.

  • Beginner to intermediate proficiency with design tools like Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or similar.
  • Experience managing and publishing content across Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.

Strong writing skills with a knack for engaging captions and punchy headlines.

You’re online, you notice trends early, and you know when something feels forced vs. authentic.

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, content-driven environment with quick turnarounds.
  • This is a hands-on, in-office role in Tigard, OR — you’ll be around the cards, the product, and the team every day.
