What is a trading card job?

A Trading Cards job typically involves working with collectible card games or sports trading cards in roles such as sorting, grading, selling, or marketing. Employees may work for card manufacturers, retailers, or authentication companies. Responsibilities can include handling inventory, verifying authenticity, pricing cards, or engaging with collectors. Some positions focus on digital trading card platforms or e-commerce management. The job requires attention to detail, knowledge of the card industry, and often a passion for collectibles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a trading card position?

To excel in a trading cards specialist or dealer role, you need in-depth knowledge of collectible trading cards, strong market research abilities, and keen attention to detail, often supported by experience in retail, collectibles, or sales. Familiarity with inventory management software, online marketplaces (such as eBay and TCGplayer), and grading services (like PSA or Beckett) is highly valuable. Outstanding interpersonal skills, salesmanship, and customer service help build client relationships and ensure successful transactions. These capabilities are crucial for accurately valuing cards, maximizing sales, and maintaining customer trust in a competitive collectibles market.

What are the typical career advancement opportunities in the trading cards industry?

Professionals in the trading cards industry often start in entry-level positions such as retail clerks or assistant buyers and can progress to roles like store manager, inventory supervisor, or trading card specialist. With experience, some individuals transition to becoming buyers for larger retail chains, open their own trading card businesses, or specialize in areas like authentication, grading, or high-value auctions. Career growth can also lead to roles in product distribution, event management (like organizing trading card conventions), or consulting for online marketplaces. Advancing in this field generally requires a combination of industry knowledge, networking, and strong sales performance.

Job description

Company Overview

Collectors is the leading creator of innovative technology that provides value‑added services for collectors worldwide. We grade, authenticate, vault, and sell millions of record‑setting collectibles, while modernizing and digitalising the trade process. Our services span collectible trading cards, autographs, comic books, coins, video games, event tickets, and memorabilia. Subsidiaries include PSA, PCGS, Beckett, SGC, and Card Ladder. With more than 3000 employees across our global offices, we are expanding to Germany and offer a unique startup opportunity backed by a stable U.S. business.

What You’ll Do
  • Own German entity accounting end‑to‑end and lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closes.
  • Deliver clean, consolidation‑ready results to Corporate Accounting, including multi‑currency translation and inter‑company reconciliations.
  • Prepare and file German statutory financial statements (HGB) and manage the local statutory audit.
  • Execute German VAT filings, corporate income tax, and other local filings in conjunction with Corporate Tax.
  • Support transfer‑pricing documentation and cross‑border cost‑sharing agreements defined by Corporate Tax.
  • Operate Corporate’s internal controls framework locally, flagging where local nuance requires adaptation.
  • Partner with Business Systems on the local NetSuite footprint and serve as accounting voice on German localisation and statutory reporting.
  • Coordinate with the Works Council (Betriebsrat) and partner with local HR and Legal on accounting matters intersecting German employment law.
  • Serve as the accounting face of the German entity, representing Local Legal, HR, Operations, and commercial teams to Corporate leadership.
  • Build and scale the German accounting function, preparing for broader EMEA scope as the business grows.
Who You Are
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Master’s, MBA, or German equivalent (Diplom‑Kaufmann/frau) preferred.
  • Wirtschaftsprüfer (WP) or Steuerberater strongly preferred.
  • US CPA, UK CA (ICAEW), or other equivalent qualification also acceptable.
  • 8–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–5 years leading a subsidiary or multinational entity.
  • Deep knowledge of German HGB and strong working knowledge of US GAAP (IFRS familiarity a plus).
  • Experience with ASC830 foreign‑currency accounting and multi‑currency consolidation.
  • Experience managing a German statutory audit with a Big‑Four or top‑tier German audit firm.
  • ERP experience required; NetSuite strongly preferred.
  • Native or professional fluency in German (C1/C2) and business‑fluent English.
  • Familiarity with Betriebsrat coordination and German employment law, where applicable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of German accounting and capability to transition between HGB, USGAAP, and IFRS.
  • Proven ownership of the full close and statutory reporting cycle for a German entity.
  • Cross‑cultural competence and ability to bridge German and US teams.
  • Builder mindset – experience establishing or scaling a subsidiary accounting function.
  • Preference for lean, high‑leverage teams with third‑party partnerships.
  • Systems‑comfortable in a modern ERP environment (NetSuite a plus).
  • Credible partner for Legal, HR, and Operations, effective in local escalation and resolution.
  • Operator‑first, pragmatic, with strong technical foundation but focused on operational run.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to Santa Ana, CA, and other Collectors locations.
Salary Range

The salary range for this position is €124,255.26 – €142,893.55 – €164,327.58. Actual compensation within this range varies based on location, job level, experience, and skill set. The role may also be eligible for bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation.

Reasons To Join Us
  • Opportunity to be part of the new Germany operation and drive the launch of PSA in the EU.
  • Dynamic and collaborative international team.
  • Organization dedicated to supporting the passionate Collectors community.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
