Job description

We are seeking a machinist who is an experienced Swiss CNC Setup Machinist to join our high-precision manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing Citizen Swiss-style lathes and Miyano CNC turning centers used in the production of orthopedic implants and surgical instruments.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated machinist who takes pride in producing high-quality parts, maintaining tight tolerances, and contributing to continuous improvement

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Citizen Swiss-style screw machines and/or Miyano CNC turning centers.
  • Perform complete machine setups including tooling installation, offsets, program verification, and first-piece approval.
  • Manufacture orthopedic implants and surgical instruments to precise customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications.
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, comparators, height gages, thread gages, and other inspection tools.
  • Perform and document in-process inspections to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Work closely with Quality Control personnel during first-piece inspections and production approvals.
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process issues to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
  • Maintain tooling, replace worn tools, and recommend tooling improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, and 6S initiatives.
  • Recommend process improvements to improve quality, productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Assist with training machine operators and less experienced machinists as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required

  • Minimum 5 years of Swiss CNC setup experience on Citizen machines
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters.
  • Ability to independently perform complete machine setups and troubleshoot production issues.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and GD&T.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
