We are seeking a Regional Controller - Central Region to support our team at Tarkett Sports Construction Central, a trusted partner in design-build and sports construction. Our team brings projects to life from concept through construction and ongoing care, delivering world-class facilities for track, field, and court sports across North America.

This role reports directly to the Director of Finance - Design & Construction and serves as a key financial leader supporting multiple entities across the Central Region. The Regional Controller is responsible for ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and accurate reporting while leading regional finance teams and partnering closely with business leaders to drive financial performance and continuous improvement. This role follows a hybrid schedule based out of the Lee's Summit, MO office with frequent travel to Kansas City, MO and Texas to fulfill regional duties .

What You'll Do

As the Regional Controller - Central Region, you will lead accounting operations across multiple entities while ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency throughout the region.

Financial Leadership & Accounting Operations

  • Lead and oversee accounting operations across multiple Central Region entities.
  • Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and financial reporting structure, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, accruals, leases, loans, payroll, and intercompany transactions.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including financial statement preparation, Work-in-Progress (WIP) analysis, journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting deliverables.
  • Manage trial balance uploads into corporate consolidation systems, ensuring data integrity, completeness, and timely submission.
  • Review and approve monthly bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Oversee payroll processing, tax filings, unemployment claims, garnishments, retirement plan administration, and fixed asset accounting.
  • Ensure project accounting accurately reflects percentage-of-completion accounting, revenue recognition, WIP schedules, retainage, accruals, and over/under billings.
  • Partner with Project Managers to ensure project costs, billings, and financial performance accurately reflect project status and minimize financial risk.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Tarkett Group accounting policies, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements across all Central Region entities.
  • Maintain audit readiness and strengthen internal control processes throughout the region.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for internal and external auditors.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Partner with the Director of Finance - Design & Construction to identify opportunities for process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement.
  • Improve the efficiency of month-end close and reporting processes through technology and best practices.
  • Champion consistent accounting, billing, and reporting procedures across all regional entities.
  • Drive operational excellence by reducing manual processes, improving reporting accuracy, and strengthening financial controls.

Financial Planning & Business Support

  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities in partnership with finance leadership and local accounting teams.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and key financial performance indicators across the region.
  • Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations that support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Assist with ad hoc financial reporting, special projects, and business initiatives as the organization continues to grow.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop regional finance team members.
  • Establish performance expectations and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support employee development through coaching, training, and knowledge sharing.
  • Promote consistency in accounting practices and financial processes across all Central Region locations.

What You Need for Success

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience within construction, project-based, or similar industries.
  • Experience supporting multi-entity operations and geographically dispersed teams strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing project accounting, financial reporting, and operational accounting functions.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with ERP and financial management systems such as Sage, Foundation, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence tools is preferred.
  • Experience working within multi-entity reporting and consolidation environments.

Accounting Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction accounting, including:
    • Percentage-of-completion accounting
    • Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting
    • Contract accounting
    • Retainage
    • Revenue recognition
    • Over/under billings
  • Knowledge of internal controls, audit processes, and multi-jurisdiction regulatory compliance.

Leadership Competencies

  • Proven ability to lead and develop geographically dispersed finance teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable business insights.
