Job description

This job is primarily dealing with the public. The ranch will host new hunters daily. ALL hunters will be guided by AMB West associates. Workdays will typically begin an hour before legal shooting light and conclude before dark or once all harvested animals have been retrieved. While harvesting elk is a goal of the program, the ultimate priority is to provide a safe, enjoyable and ethical hunting experience to all participants regardless of harvest success.
This is a 5-day a week position October 24th through December 6th.
Weekends are required.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Check-in hunters before the hunt begins.
    • Have hunters/participants sign liability waivers.
    • Lead a safety meeting to establish expectations.
    • Ensure all hunters are using non-lead ammunition.
  • Transport hunters to designated hunting areas using ranch vehicles.
  • Guide hunters to ensure a safe and successful experience.
  • Hike in rough terrain.
  • Work outside in tough conditions i.e., cold, wet, darkness.
  • Spot and stalk elk.
  • Advise hunters on shooting position, target distance and shot placement.
  • Assist hunters with retrieval of harvested game.
    • Field dress or quarter elk.
    • Pack out elk quarters.
  • Take tissue samples (remove lymph nodes) for CWD testing.
  • Ensure the safety of yourself, hunters and participants.
  • Confirm all hunters are following FWP hunting regulations.
  • Know the ranch boundaries and fair chase ethics.
  • Communicate with hunt coordinator and game wardens.

Qualifications
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Excellent decision-making skills.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Lift, carry and pack 80+ pounds over rough, uneven terrain.

  • Must provide your own gear: hunting pack, optics, rangefinder, outerwear, fluorescent orange vest, footwear, hunting knife, trekking poles, etc.
