Athletic Trainer – RWJBarnabas Health

At RWJBarnabas Health, Athletic Trainers are an essential part of delivering exceptional sports medicine care through prevention, education, rehabilitation, and collaboration. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, and community partners committed to helping athletes and active individuals recover safely and return to peak performance. As an Athletic Trainer, you will play a critical role in concussion management, injury prevention, community outreach, and patient education while supporting innovative sports medicine programs across the communities we serve. A typical day for an Athletic Trainer may include:

  • Assisting Sports Medicine physicians in the evaluation and clinical management of concussion patients
  • Administering ImPACT baseline and post-concussion testing, cardiac screenings, and other athlete assessments
  • Educating patients, families, schools, and community organizations on concussion recovery, injury prevention, and sports medicine services
  • Guiding patients through return-to-learn and return-to-play protocols under physician supervision
  • Monitoring patient progress through symptom tracking, follow-up communication, and academic restriction updates
  • Collaborating with physical therapists to support rehabilitation programs and return-to-play progression
  • Coordinating referrals and navigating patients through outpatient sports medicine and ancillary services
  • Leading off-site community screenings, athletic events, and wellness initiatives while ensuring efficient workflow and coordination
  • Building and maintaining relationships with physician practices, schools, athletic programs, and community partners
  • Supporting quality improvement initiatives, research projects, staff training, and operational excellence within the Sports Medicine program

To be considered for this Athletic Trainer opportunity:

  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, or a related health field.
  • Licensed in the State of New Jersey as an Athletic Trainer, National Athletic Trainer Association (NATA) Board Certified
  • Maintain the NATABOC-required 50 CEU s per certification period (every two years)
  • New Jersey Department of Education (DOE) clearance
  • Certified NSCA OR ACSM Preferred
  • You maintain current American Heart Association BLS CPR certification
  • You have strong communication, organizational, and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with concussion management, ImPACT testing, cardiac screenings, sports medicine, or orthopedic rehabilitation is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with physicians, physical therapists, schools, or athletic organizations is highly desirable.
