Job description

About Shepherd Center

With five decades of experience, Shepherd Center provides world‑class clinical care, research, and family support for people experiencing complex conditions, including spinal cord and brain injuries, multi‑trauma, traumatic amputations, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and pain. An elite center ranked by U.S. News as one of the nation’s top rehabilitation hospitals, Shepherd is also recognized as a Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury Model System and is the only rehabilitation facility in the nation with an on‑site intensive care unit, allowing us to care for the most complex patients and begin rehabilitation sooner.

Position Overview

We are recruiting a full‑time, on‑site outpatient Rehabilitation Psychologist to join our SHARE (Shaping Hope and Recovery Excellence) Military Initiative. This program was launched in 2008 to provide interdisciplinary, personalized rehabilitation care for post‑9/11 veterans and first responders. The psychologist will be part of a team of four other psychologists in the Department of Psychology, which serves patients with brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, comprehensive rehabilitation, and pain management.

Responsibilities
  • Participate actively in interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Provide rehabilitative services to veterans and concussion patients and their families/caregivers, including individual, group, and family therapy/interventions.
  • Conduct assessments, consultations, and educational sessions.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to plan and implement treatment goals over typical 8‑to‑12‑week programs, treating 10‑15 wounded warriors at a time.
  • Support interdisciplinary treatment team research and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • PhD or PsyD from an APA/CPA‑approved Clinical Psychology program.
  • Completion of an APA‑accredited internship.
  • Successful completion of a 1‑ or 2‑year postdoctoral fellowship/residency, or more than 5 years of clinical work experience with similar military patient populations.
  • Experience working in outpatient medical settings and with interdisciplinary treatment teams is preferred.
  • Board certification or eligibility for board certification in Rehabilitation, Health, or Clinical Psychology is preferred.
  • Eligibility for licensure in the State of Georgia.
  • Proficiency in working with military or veteran populations, mild to moderate traumatic brain injury, concussions, substance misuse, and military trauma issues.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Continuing Education Unit (CEU) opportunities.
  • 403(b) retirement plan with employer match.
  • Paid time off and flexible scheduling.
  • Access to a comprehensive benefits package and a supportive workplace culture.

The Shepherd Center is accredited by The Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and it is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 10 best rehabilitation hospitals in the nation.
