What is an ADU Sales?

An ADU Sales job involves selling Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), which are small, secondary housing units on residential properties. Sales representatives educate potential customers on ADU benefits, financing options, and local regulations. They work with homeowners, builders, and real estate professionals to facilitate ADU purchases and installations. Effective communication, knowledge of zoning laws, and sales expertise are key to success in this role.

What are some typical challenges faced in an ADU Sales role?

Professionals in ADU Sales often encounter challenges related to navigating varying municipal regulations, educating clients about ADU financing options, and balancing multiple client projects simultaneously. Additionally, staying up to date with zoning laws and construction timelines can require close coordination with local authorities, contractors, and buyers. However, these challenges also present opportunities to become a trusted expert in a growing market and to develop strong long-term client relationships. Successfully overcoming these obstacles contributes significantly to both individual sales success and reputation within the industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the ADU Sales position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an ADU Sales professional, you need a strong background in real estate sales, knowledge of accessory dwelling unit (ADU) regulations, and proven experience in client relationship management. Familiarity with CRM software, MLS platforms, and relevant real estate certifications is usually expected. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and organizational skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills are crucial for effectively guiding clients through the complexities of ADU projects and securing successful sales outcomes.

Job description

Business Development Lead, Landlord Acquisition

Renting should be faster, fairer, and less stressful than it is. We're the infrastructure that makes that happen. Four million users. 300+ real estate company and MLS partnerships. Ten years of consistent growth. From applications and screening to payments and lease management, the full rental journey runs on RentSpree. Recognized by Forbes as a Best Startup Employer and by BuiltIn Seattle as a Best Place to Work.

Business Development Lead, Landlord Acquisition - Seattle, WA (Hybrid)

RentSpree is scaling a new partnership channel: apartment associations, real estate investor associations, and adjacent property-owner networks that give us direct access to independent “mom-and-pop” rental property owners. We're looking to grow this reach by replicating the partnerships that have already driven strong signups, activation, and revenue.

This is a new, dedicated role focused on building this into a full-time channel. You'll own the full partnership lifecycle: prospecting associations city by city and state by state, building the pitch, negotiating agreements, and closing deals, while also testing adjacent verticals like homeowners association (HOA) and accessory dwelling unit (ADU) networks where RentSpree could reach property owners directly.

This is a builder role. We're looking for someone who thrives in ambiguity and has a proven track record of standing up a new vertical or channel from scratch.

This role is based in Seattle, WA; in-office 2x/week with expectations of travel a few times per quarter for conferences and association events, including one heavier travel month.

What You'll Do
  • Prospect and build relationships with local, state, and national apartment associations and real estate investor associations (REIAs) to bring RentSpree in front of their independent-landlord membership base
  • Run the full sales cycle: outbound prospecting, pitching, negotiating simple revenue-share terms, and closing
  • Explore and test partnerships in adjacent new verticals, including HOA and ADU networks
  • Define and refine the outreach approach, messaging, and partnership playbook for this channel, since it doesn't yet exist
  • Hand off signed partnerships to Customer Success for onboarding, activation, and ongoing account management
  • Manage pipeline and partner data in HubSpot; use ZoomInfo for prospecting
  • Represent RentSpree at industry conferences and association events (a few times per quarter, including one heavier travel month)

Our job descriptions evolve with our business needs and priorities. Your role may include other tasks, projects, and team support.

Skills You Bring
  • 2+ years of experience closing deals as an Account Executive or related, with 4+ years of relevant sales or business development experience overall
  • Software sales experience required
  • Strong prospecting skills and a track record of independently running a full sales cycle
  • A proven track record of launching or scaling a new vertical, channel, or market segment from the ground up
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a builder mindset: you'd rather define the playbook than follow one
  • Familiarity with HubSpot and ZoomInfo, or comparable CRM/prospecting tools, is a plus
  • Real estate experience, particularly single-family or multifamily rental (SFR/MFR), is a plus

These are the principles we hire for and hold ourselves to:

  • Own it end to end. Drive projects from idea to execution. Take pride in the work. Do what it takes.
  • Communicate like a teammate. Direct, candid, and respectful. Give feedback well, receive it well, and build trust through transparency.
  • Hold a high bar. Think critically. Stay curious. Keep looking for ways to do it better.
  • Stay adaptable. Anticipate challenges, take initiative, and bring resourcefulness to whatever comes next.
  • Experiment and learn fast. Try things. Learn from what doesn't work. Keep it simple.
  • Debate well, commit fully. Push back constructively, contribute your point of view, then align and move together.
  • AI is a core skill. Use AI tools to move faster and think sharper.
Why Join Us?

The work here is real, the problems are hard, and you'll have teammates who push you to do your best.

  • Compensation. $150k – $175k base + bonus.
  • Equity. Share in what you help build.
  • The team. Talented colleagues who push you and back you up.
  • Room to grow. Coaching, resources, and development beyond the role you start in.
  • Health coverage from day one. Medical, dental, and vision for you and your dependents. HSA/FSA options. Headspace Care+, gym discounts, and more.
  • A real plan for your future. Life and disability coverage, plus a SIMPLE IRA with company match.
  • Flexible vacation. Take the time you need. We trust you to manage it.
  • 11 holidays a year, plus 3 recharge days.
  • Ways to connect. Reimbursed weekly team lunches, game nights, and events. In-person and remote.
  • Recognition. Recognize a peer with Sprees (redeemable for gift cards or donations). Nominate someone for a S.P.R.E.E. Award with a potential spot bonus.
  • The tools to do your best work. Business expense allowance and internet reimbursement.
  • Family support. Parental leave and fertility benefits.
  • Legal and tax help. Legal benefits and tax support through RocketLawyer.
  • Seattle HQ perk. Company-sponsored Orca card for public transit to and from the office.
  • High impact, lean team. Small teams, close to customers, shipping work that matters. Your fingerprints are on the product.
