Student Wellness & Behavioral Support Focus

Fork Union Military Academy – Fork Union, Virginia

Join a mission-driven boarding school community dedicated to developing young men of character, leadership, and integrity.

Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA), a Christian all-boys college preparatory boarding school located in central Virginia near Charlottesville and the Blue Ridge Mountains, is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Mental Health Counselor for the 2026–2027 school year. This position plays an important role in supporting cadet wellbeing, emotional resilience, behavioral support, and student success within a structured boarding school environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with adolescents and committed to helping young men grow academically, socially, emotionally, and personally.

Position Overview

The Mental Health Counselor works closely with faculty, TAC Officers, coaches, administrators, families, and health services staff to support the mental health and overall wellbeing of cadets. This role provides counseling support, crisis response, behavioral intervention strategies, and student wellness resources while helping foster a safe, supportive, and student-focused campus environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling support and guidance to cadets
  • Support student wellness, behavioral needs, and crisis response efforts
  • Collaborate with faculty, TAC staff, coaches, and families to support cadet success
  • Assist in identifying student support strategies and wellness resources
  • Maintain appropriate counseling documentation and records
  • Participate in student development, retention, and campus wellness initiatives

Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with an understanding of adolescent development, student mental health, and behavioral support within an educational environment. The ability to maintain confidentiality, work collaboratively within the Academy's chain of command, and respond effectively in real-time situations is essential. A Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field is required. Virginia school counseling certification/licensure or eligibility for licensure is preferred. Experience working with adolescents, behavioral support, or student wellness programs is highly valued. Candidates should also be willing to participate in on-call support for student mental health or crisis situations while cadets are on campus.
