The Chinatown YMCA is seeking a Maintenance Worker / Porter I who, under the directsupervision of the Building Engineer will beresponsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including such dutiesas mopping, dusting, and trash removal.  May also be required to complete duties related to window washing,meeting set-up, pool cleaning, snow removal, groundskeeping and other related responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Chinatown YMCA is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
  • May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
  • Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  • Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  • Ensures the Chinatown YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  • Replaces soap, paper towels and other supplies.
  • May set up furniture and/or rooms for events.
  • Strip and wax floors, also shampoo rugs as needed.
  • Follow standards of DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD and ECB Departments.
  • Follow YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures.
  • Flexible Schedule,open to working nights and Weekends.


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe and efficient use.
  • Obtain YMCA HousekeepingCertificate within one (1) year of attaining position.
  • Must be available to work morning, afternoon, and evening weekday hours/shifts, or weekend afternoons and evening hours/shifts.
