Job description

Job Title: Operating Room Desktop Support TechnicianJob Description

This role provides hands-on desktop and end user support within a fast-paced hospital operating room environment. You will image and deploy devices, install and support clinical software, and ensure that all end user equipment and systems remain secure, reliable, and fully operational. The position combines strong technical capability with exceptional customer service, supporting clinicians and staff so they can deliver safe and efficient patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Image, configure, and upgrade desktop computers to meet clinical and operational requirements.
  • Deploy PCs, printers, Wyse terminals, and other end user devices across the operating room and wider hospital environment.
  • Set up and configure Wyse terminals and ensure proper connectivity and performance.
  • Configure and support mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads for clinical and administrative use.
  • Install, update, and support clinical and standard software applications on end user devices.
  • Communicate technical information, IT policies, and complex messages to end users in a clear, service-oriented manner.
  • Provide one-to-one instruction, training, and guidance to end users and help desk staff on hardware, software, and standard procedures.
  • Deliver exemplary customer service at all levels of the organisation, maintaining a proactive, solutions-focused attitude when addressing issues.
  • Follow established guidelines and standards to ensure consistent communication aligned with the wider IT team.
  • Analyse system failures critically and quickly determine appropriate remedies to minimise disruption to clinical workflows.
  • Perform regular checkpoint rounds throughout the operating room and hospital environment to confirm all equipment is fully operational.
  • Ensure adherence to electronic and physical security policies for computers, data, and IT infrastructure.
  • Implement, install, maintain, and support end user infrastructure equipment, software, and connectivity for PDAs, PCs (including Macintosh and workstation devices), printers, LAN, AV, video conferencing, and telephony.
  • Diagnose and resolve typical software and hardware problems and malfunctions on supported systems.
  • Act as a technical resource to stakeholders, providing recommendations for hardware and software acquisitions.
  • Conduct proactive diagnostic checks on desktop computers to maintain performance and protect against viruses and other threats.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining written documentation on problem resolutions, tool configurations, and end user instructions.
  • Monitor assigned desktop queues in the ticketing system, logging detailed, real-time journal entries for all actions taken.
  • Close support tickets within established service levels, consistently meeting targets for daily ticket resolution.
  • Use standard templates and tools (including systems such as Innotas and Front Range) to complete administrative tasks accurately and on time.
  • Participate in planning and implementing small projects and department-specific initiatives related to end user technology.
  • Support the installation, rollout, and upgrade of new software, hardware, systems, servers, and networks as required.
  • Strive to reduce mean time to resolution while closing tickets promptly and maintaining high-quality support.
  • Resolve a specified number of tickets per day and a targeted percentage of monthly tickets at the desktop site using mobile tools and devices.
  • Perform wire management across IT equipment, ensuring cabling is neat, safe, and properly maintained, including capturing before and after photographs of completed work.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience providing desktop support in a healthcare environment, preferably within or supporting operating rooms.
  • Strong technical capability in troubleshooting hardware and software issues for end users in Windows 10 and Windows 11 environments.
  • Hands-on experience imaging machines and setting up workstations for clinical and administrative staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to support users in an operating room setting with an understanding of the urgency and sensitivity of clinical workflows.
  • Experience with Active Directory for user and device administration.
  • Practical knowledge of Office 365 applications and related services.
  • Experience deploying and supporting printers and resolving print-related issues.
  • Familiarity with enterprise ticketing systems for logging, tracking, and closing support requests.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and patiently with non-technical users.
  • Highly tech-savvy with a proactive, go-getter mindset and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Personable and professional communication style, able to build trust with clinicians and hospital staff.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
