Job Summary:
West Texas A&M University (WTAMU), a member of The Texas A&M University System, invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Sports and Exercise Sciences. WTAMU is seeking an innovative and dynamic student-centered educator to contribute to undergraduate (i.e., Exercise Science, Human Performance, Physical Education, Athletic Training, and Strength and Conditioning) and graduate (i.e., Exercise Science, Sport and Exercise Psychology, and Sport Management) programs using both traditional and online delivery. This position reports to the Head of the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences (SES), and is a 11-month, tenure-track full-time faculty position with a four/four load and summer teaching responsibilities. The breakdown of responsibilities for the performance evaluation criteria (i.e., Instructional Responsibility, Intellectual Contribution, and Professional Service) is generally 60/30/10%, respectively. This can vary based on rank and responsibility; normal ranges are listed in the faculty handbook.
WTAMU is a four-year academic institution with more than 9,000 students serving the Texas Panhandle and beyond.
Work Performed:
  • Effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses in area of expertise using face-to-face and/or online delivery formats.
  • Faculty teaching graduate courses have the responsibility of serving on graduate committees (e.g., capstone, thesis, and internship/inquiry committees) to support students matriculating through the graduate program.
  • Develop a dynamic research program with areas of research that may include but are not limited to Strength and Conditioning, Biomechanics, Exercise Testing and Prescription, Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, or other kinesiology related areas.
  • Recruit, advise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Actively participate in departmental, university, scientific community, and professional service activities.
  • Work collaboratively with WTAMU faculty and faculty committees, other agencies, universities, and constituents to support regional teaching, research, and service needs related to expertise.

Necessary Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Exercise Science, Human Performance, Kinesiology, Strength & Conditioning, Athletic Training or closely related field. Current ABD candidates will be considered.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with experience teaching courses in areas of expertise.
  • Commitment to an interdisciplinary team approach to education and research, including collaboration with the SES Graduate Coordinator, Director of the Human Performance Research Laboratory, and other faculty within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
  • Proven record of research and scholarly achievement appropriate for rank.
  • Desire and ability to establish collegial relationships with department, college, university, and community members.
  • Leadership skills, effective communication, self-motivation, and performance in a student-centered environment are expected.
  • Commitment to upholding high standards of ethical and professional behavior, including fair and respectful interaction with students within an intellectually engaging academic setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have experience securing funding or strong potential to secure funding to support research and scholarly activity.
  • Professional certification or licensure related to Exercise and Sport Science (e.g., ACSM-CEP, ACSM-EP) and/or Strength and Conditioning (e.g., CSCS, CPT).
  • Experience advising and mentoring students in both academics and research.
  • Experience teaching and developing curriculum in one or more of the following areas: Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Testing and Prescription, Therapeutic Modalities, Structural and Mechanical Kinesiology, Personal Training, Athletic Training, and Biomechanics.
