Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (may include some weekends)

Position Introduction:
At the University of Oklahoma, we believe global engagement transforms lives. To advance this mission, the Education Abroad Office seeks a dedicated and student-centered Study Abroad Advisor to guide students in pursuit of global learning opportunities.
As a key member of the Education Abroad team, this position provides advising and support throughout the student journey, from program exploration and application through pre-departure preparation. Advisors also build and maintain relationships with campus and international partners, promote study abroad opportunities, and contribute to initiatives that advance global engagement across the university. Through their work, Advisors help students develop the skills and perspectives needed to thrive in an interconnected world.
Key Responsibilities
As a Study Abroad Advisor, you will:
  • Advise students through the study abroad journey, helping them identify programs that align with their academic goals, interests, financial considerations, and personal aspirations.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with campus stakeholders, international institutions, and program providers to support student success and expand global opportunities.
  • Promote study abroad across campus through outreach efforts, presentations, information sessions, fairs, and other engagement activities.

Skills:
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and engage in public speaking.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Competency in creating, organizing, and maintaining data .
  • Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm and creativity.

Additional Departmental Duties:
  • Provide individualized and group advising, supporting students from initial exploration through application, acceptance, and pre-departure preparation.
  • Develop and deliver student programming, including pre-departure and re-entry initiatives that foster meaningful intercultural learning and reflection.
  • Manage program and student application processes, ensuring accurate records, adherence to internal procedures, and coordination with university and external partners.
  • May support students with scholarships, visas, and other program requirements, helping reduce barriers to participation in international experiences.
  • Collaborate across university offices to facilitate academic records, financial aid, billing, and other operational processes related to study abroad.
  • Contribute to program assessment and development, helping strengthen existing opportunities and support the growth of new initiatives.
  • Participate in occasional evening and weekend events and perform other duties as assigned in support of the Education Abroad mission.

  • High School Diploma or GED and some College.
  • 18 months experience in office supervision/management or student services.

Department Preferences:
  • At least one significant international or intercultural experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working with college students.
