Description
The Department of Undergraduate Academics at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for part-time, non-tenured instructors, with a start date of January 20, 2026.
The General Engineering Program in Undergraduate Academics manages the first-year engineering course EG-UY 1004 Introduction to Engineering and Design, which is required for all engineering, computer science, and business and technology majors at NYU Tandon. This course consists of weekly lectures, labs, and recitation sections and is team-taught by a group of faculty who are supported by a large team of teaching assistants. The Lecturer will co-teach recitation sections alongside an engineering faculty member.
Qualifications
We invite applicants to teach one or more undergraduate courses. In particular, we presently seek writing instructors for EG-UY 1004 Introduction Engineering and Design. We are seeking a dedicated faculty member eager to support STEM students in developing core skills in technical communication and writing. The writing instructor's primary responsibility will be teaching. Their responsibility is fulfilled by:
  • Evaluating weekly individually- and group-written assignments
  • Delivering short lectures on technical and professional communication
  • Hosting in-class, one-on-one appointments with students to address writing issues

We invite applicants with expertise in all areas of technical writing. Applicants should ideally have one of the following:
  • MFA in writing field
  • M.S or Ph.D. in engineering, STEM, communications, journalism, or related technical writing fields
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM, communication, or related field with minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in technical writing
  • Industry experience and/or teaching in the areas of technical report writing, scientific literacy, composition and rhetoric, and/or academic communication
  • A documented record of university teaching in technical communication and/or composition and rhetoric

  • Prior experience working with students through tutoring or supporting academic writing centers

Additional Information
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the contact hour rate for this position is $222.29. This rate is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 7902.
