Job description

Position Overview Are you ready to grow your career in public-sector Human Resources (HR). Do you want an opportunity to give back and serve your community. Then consider applying today to join our growing team as the next Human Resources Technician with the City of Champaign Human Resources Department.

Job Responsibilities The Human Resources Technician is an integral role contributing to the smooth and efficient operation of the HR Department. This role supports a variety of HR functions related to staffing, recruiting, and record management, requiring broad HR knowledge and strong attention to detail. The HR Technician maintains and reviews employee information in the human resources information system (HRIS), ensuring accuracy in position management, personnel actions, and data entry.

They also develop job postings, post positions and place job advertisements through the applicant tracking system (ATS). Additional responsibilities include preparing reports and coordinating records for various HR functions. The HR Technician also serves as a back-up to the HR Administrative Assistant providing customer service and reception support as needed.

Required Qualifications Associate degree in human resources, business administration or a similar field or high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by additional human resources training or experience. Experience performing similar technical work related to human resources including payroll, HRIS, recruiting, or benefit administration. An equivalent combination of work experience and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

Knowledge of HR functions, best practices, and regulations in a variety of areas, including hiring, payroll, and employee benefits. Experience working with confidential information. Strong customer service, organization, and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field. Experience working with Tyler MUNIS or similar Human Resources Information System. Experience working in public-sector human resources.

Experience performing technical work related to recruiting. Experience with HR records coordination. Drug screening and criminal background check will be required.

The annual starting salary range is $76,544.26 - $107,166.28, accompanied by an excellent fringe benefits package. Most new hires will be placed at the beginning of the salary range. Applications must be submitted online no later than Sunday, August 23, 2026
