Position Summary
The Senior Data & Financial Systems Analyst serves as a key owner of the organization's financial systems and data analytics capabilities. This role is responsible for Workday Financials configuration, finance security design, and enterprise reporting for institutions, ensuring that financial data is accurate, secure, and actionable.
This position partners closely with Finance, IT, and leadership to support successful Workday Financials implementation, ongoing system optimization, and the delivery of high-quality analytics through Power BI and SQL-based data models.
The role is hands-on and strategic, combining system ownership with advanced analytics and business partnership. This role will directly report to the Director of Data Analytics and Financial Systems in the Finance department. This role will also be responsible for the supervision of other analysts within the institution as required.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Systems (Configuration & Support)
  • Serve as a supporting functional owner and subject matter expert for Workday Financials or any ERP system.
  • Configure and maintain:
  • Financial dimensions (funds, grants, cost centers, projects).
  • Business process framework analytics.
  • Account posting rules, reporting, and financial data structures.
  • Support testing, validation, and post-go-live stabilization.
  • Partner with implementation vendors and internal stakeholders during and after deployment.
  • Lead system wide release planning, enhancements and testing in alignment with academic and fiscal calendars.

Finance Security & Data Governance
  • Maintain ERP Financial security
  • Role-based access
  • Domain security
  • Segregation of duties
  • Partner with Finance leadership to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
  • Establish governance around financial data access, reporting standards, and data definitions.
  • Support security reviews, access changes, and periodic audits.
  • Maintain a prioritized backlog across configuration, security, and analytics initiatives.
  • Develop a Data Catalog of all data assets used in financial reporting.
  • Develop a Business metadata for Finance to translate Workday's technical structure into finance-understandable language.

Analytics, Reporting & Business Intelligence
  • Design and maintain Power BI dashboards and enterprise financial reports within Workday.
  • Develop and optimize SQL Server queries, views, and datasets.
  • Build repeatable reporting solutions for:
  • Financial performance
  • Grant activity and compliance
  • Forecasting and trend analysis
  • Ensure consistency and data reconciliation between Workday data, downstream reporting, and external systems.
  • Improve data quality by implementing new flagging mechanisms in reporting to identify errors related to duplication, data ownership and data sources.

Business Partnership & Leadership
  • Act as a trusted partner to Finance, Grants, and leadership teams.
  • Translate business needs into system configurations and analytics solutions.
  • Provide data-driven insights to support leadership decision-making.
  • Contribute to long-term financial systems and analytics strategy.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Analytics, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial systems, analytics, or business intelligence roles.
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Workday Financials (configuration, reporting, or implementation) - Desirable
  • Power BI (dashboard development, DAX, data modeling)
  • Microsoft SQL Server (writing and optimizing SQL queries)
  • Experience in designing or supporting financial security models.
  • Ability to work independently and own complex deliverables end-to-end.
  • Experience in supporting institution wide endeavors related to reporting and analytics.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferrable Qualifications
  • Familiarity of financial data structures and accounting concepts.
  • Prior experience working in a financial institution or in higher education.
  • Prior experience in change management for new configurations, security roles, and analytics asset communications, training, and adoption measurement.
  • Experience in tracking performance of financial processes (e.g., close cycle), error rates, data quality, and report usage/rating in Power BI.
  • Familiarity with Workday Financials concepts (FDM, business processes, domain security.
  • Experience applying a product or platform ownership mindset to systems or analytics.
