Job description

This position is a highly skilled role with hands-on experience in Workday Benefits and Absence modules, with a strong focus on end-to-end configuration optimization and integration support. The role is responsible for maintaining and enhancing Workday functionality related to employee benefits, leave management, and time-off plans, as well as ensuring seamless data flow between Workday and external benefit providers. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in Workday, a solid understanding of HR processes, and the ability to partner effectively with HR, IT, Payroll, and other stakeholders.
Reports To: Director of Human Resource Information System
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • May hire, train, and oversee subordinate staff in the department.
  • May oversee the scheduling, assignments, and the daily workflow of subordinate staff in the department.
  • May provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Configure Benefits & Absence Management modules, including eligibility rules, plan set up, and leave programs.
  • Manage open enrollment, life event processing, benefit eligibility rules, configurations, and ensure accurate integration with benefit carriers.
  • Support absence plans, time-off requests, accruals, leave types, and compliance with federal and state leave regulations (e.g., FMLA).
  • Collaborate with HR and payroll teams to ensure accurate processing of benefits, leave, and time off transactions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Workday configuration and integration issues, ensuring data integrity, system performance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct system testing for Workday updates/releases related to benefits and absence.
  • Develop, update and maintain workday reports and dashboards leveraging report writer and calculated fields.
  • Create and update user documentation and provide training to end users.
  • Work with internal Benefits and IT to support benefit file integrations and data feeds.
  • Stay current on Workday product updates and industry best practices.
  • Collaborates with leadership and HR staff to identify system improvements and enhancements; recommends and implements solutions.
  • Assists with acquisitions to compile complex data reports, summaries, and logs for leaders and HR staff.
  • Serves as a representative and liaison between HR information services, external vendors, and other stakeholders for HRIS design and implementation projects.
  • Ensures system compliance with data security and privacy requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:
  • 3+ years of hands-on Workday administration experience focused on Benefits and Absence Management modules
  • Experience with Open Enrollment, Benefits integrations, EIBs, and Leave of Absence/Absence workflows.
  • Strong understanding of HR processes, compliance, and benefit regulations.
  • Proficient in report writing (Workday Report Writer, Calculated Fields).
  • Analytical mindset with demonstrated troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to partner effectively across teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced excel skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive employee, organizational, and system-related information exercising discretion and sound judgment at all times.

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • Workday certification(s) in Benefits and/or Absence
  • Experience with other Workday modules (e.g., Time Tracking, Payroll, HCM).
  • Familiarity with EIBs and condition rules.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP desirable.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
