POSITION SUMMARY - Senior Business Systems Analyst, Transportation

The Senior Business Systems Analyst is responsible for designing, supporting, and optimizing scalable technology solutions that enhance PetSmart's Transportation operations. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams, carriers, vendors, and transportation stakeholders to improve operational efficiency through analytics, technology enablement, process optimization, and data-driven decision making. The position acts as a Transportation Systems and Analytics leader, translating operational challenges into technology-enabled solutions while leveraging Transportation Management Systems (TMS), business intelligence tools, and emerging AI capabilities to optimize network performance, improve carrier effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement across the transportation organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Analyze transportation business processes to identify operational inefficiencies and recommend scalable system-driven solutions to improve performance, service, and cost effectiveness. Develop and execute project plans, implementation strategies, and process improvement initiatives aligned with Transportation operational goals. Create and monitor KPIs and reporting metrics to measure project effectiveness, transportation performance, carrier service levels, network efficiency, and process improvements. Utilize SQL and relational database knowledge to develop actionable insights, reporting, and analytical tools that support Transportation operations. Collaborate with business partners, carriers, vendors, IT teams, and operations leadership to troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions. Serve as the business lead and subject matter expert for Transportation technology solutions and data analytics, translating operational requirements into actionable insights and technology-enabled improvements that enhance network performance. Support transportation planning, carrier tendering, freight settlement, shipment visibility, and transportation execution processes through system configuration and optimization. Participate in change management efforts to ensure successful adoption of new processes and technologies across Transportation operations. Identify, evaluate, and pilot emerging transportation technologies that can improve network visibility, carrier performance, operational efficiency, and customer service. Partner with business and technology teams to explore and implement AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics solutions that optimize transportation planning, routing, carrier selection, capacity management, and freight spend.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Logistics, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience may be considered. Minimum of 5 years of experience in business systems analysis, transportation systems support, transportation management systems, logistics operations, or related analytical/technical roles. Strong understanding of transportation operations, carrier management, freight planning, routing, execution, and logistics workflows preferred. Proven ability to lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts involving detailed root cause analysis and innovative solution design. Demonstrated success supporting organizational change management initiatives within fast-paced, performance-driven environments. Experience working with enterprise Transportation Management Systems (TMS), transportation execution platforms, or related supply chain technologies. Experience supporting parcel, LTL, truckload, and/or dedicated transportation operations preferred.

TECHNICAL SKILLS Strong experience with relational databases and SQL development (Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar platforms). Hands-on experience supporting Transportation Management Systems (TMS), freight execution platforms, carrier integration solutions, or transportation visibility tools. Experience with Business Intelligence and reporting tools to support transportation analytics, KPI tracking, and operational performance management. Knowledge of EDI, API integrations, carrier connectivity, freight settlement processes, and transportation-related data flows. Understanding of AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, optimization technologies, and their practical application within transportation and supply chain operations. Experience evaluating and implementing transportation technology solutions, including visibility platforms, network optimization tools, automation technologies, and AI-enabled decision support systems. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for transportation analytics, reporting, and data management.
