As a Software Engineer Sr within PNC's Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA or Cleveland, OH.
We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own and evolve Workday integrations and related HR/Payroll applications. You'll lead ETL workflows, mainframe JCL jobs, file transmissions, and monitoring across a complex, business critical ecosystem. This role combines hands-on engineering, troubleshooting, and cross-team collaboration with vendors and internal technology partners.
How This Role Fits In
The HR Talent and Acquisition team supports Workday and other vendor applications that underpin our HR and payroll operations. You'll be responsible for one or more applications, ensuring integrations are reliable, secure, and compliant, while improving performance and operational resilience.
What You'll Do
Integration Ownership: Design, build, and maintain Workday integrations (EIB, Studio, Core Connectors) and associated ETL pipelines to move data between Workday, payroll systems, and vendor apps.
Act as Application Team Lead: Must demonstrate ownership of governance and controls for assigned applications; this includes timely certificate renewals, remediation of vulnerabilities, and responding to internal and external audits.
(nice to have) Mainframe Execution: Author and maintain JCL to schedule and run jobs on the mainframe; monitor execution, handle failures, and optimize performance.
Data Pipelines & Transmissions: Implement secure file transmissions (SFTP/HTTPS/AS2), data validations, and reconciliation; manage schemas, mappings, and transformations.
Monitoring & Reliability: Use tools like Dynatrace and BigPanda to detect anomalies, reduce MTTR, and drive incident prevention through observability and automation.
Access & Security: Partner with PNC Enterprise security and access management teams to ensure data security and privacy controls for all assigned applications.
SDLC & Agile Delivery: Work in Agile (Scrum/Kanban), manage work in Jira, and coordinate incident/change management in ServiceNow.
Technical Leadership: Troubleshoot complex production issues, conduct root-cause analysis, mentor peers, and contribute to engineering standards.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with technology teams, vendors, and business partners to prioritize, plan, and deliver integrations and enhancements.
Qualifications (Must-Haves)
Experience: 3+ years in software engineering or integration engineering, with hands-on ownership of production integrations and ETL processes.
Workday: Strong experience with Workday integrations (EIB, Studio, Core Connectors), troubleshooting, and coding within the Workday ecosystem.
ETL & Data: Proficient in ETL design and implementation; data modeling, mapping, validation, and reconciliation.
Monitoring & Operations: Experience with Dynatrace and/or BigPanda, alerting, dashboards, SLIs/SLOs, and incident response.
Security & Access: Working knowledge of access management, data security, encryption, and secure file transfers.
Process & Tools: Jira, ServiceNow, Agile methodologies; strong documentation and communication skills.
Nice-to-Haves
Workday Certifications (e.g., Workday Studio, Integration Specialist).
Knowledge of Oracle (SQL, performance tuning) for downstream HR/Payroll data stores.
Experience with vendor HR systems (benefits, payroll, timekeeping) and HR data standards.
