Programmer/Analyst: IV (Lead)/ Lead Workday Financials Engineer

Location - Any HNB Footprint

Contract to Hire

We are seeking a Senior / Lead Workday Financials Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This role is for a high-caliber, hands-on technical SME with deep experience engineering integrations and custom solutions within Workday Financial Management, including General Ledger (GL), Expense, and Source to Pay.

This position is not functional. The ideal candidate is a technical Workday engineer who codes, builds, and supports solutions using Workday Extend, APIs, and integrations, operating within a large, enterprise Finance organization.

Key Responsibilities

Workday Development & Integrations

Design, build, test, deploy, and support complex Workday integrations using Studio, Orchestrate, EIB, Core/Cloud Connectors, and REST/SOAP APIs.

Develop and maintain custom solutions using Workday Extend, including hands-on coding, orchestration logic, and API-driven integrations.

Build and support inbound and outbound integrations between Workday Financials and external systems (ERP, procurement platforms, expense systems, banking, etc.).

Perform data transformations using XML, JSON, XSLT, and Workday calculated fields.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across development, test, and production environments.

Workday Financials Focus

Provide technical engineering support across Workday Financial Management, including:

General Ledger (GL)

Expense

Source to Pay (S2P)

Ensure integrations and Extend solutions align with Finance transaction flows, accounting structures, and data models.

Support API-based financial transactions and postings into GL.

Partner with Finance IT and technical stakeholders within a broader Finance organization.

Lead-Level / SME Responsibilities

Act as a technical lead and SME for Workday Financials integrations and Extend development.

Own technical solution design while remaining fully hands-on.

Review code and integrations; mentor and guide other engineers.

Collaborate with architects, project managers, and functional partners without assuming a purely architectural or functional role.

Proactively identify opportunities for automation, performance optimization, and integration stability.

Lifecycle & Support

Support full development lifecycle: technical design, build, testing, deployment, and production support.

Maintain technical documentation, data mappings, and integration specifications.

Stay current with Workday releases, particularly enhancements related to Financials, Extend, APIs, and Orchestrate.

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of hands-on Workday technical development experience.

Strong experience coding in Workday Extend.

Advanced experience with Workday integrations and APIs (REST/SOAP).

Proven experience supporting Workday Financial Management, including General

Ledger (GL), Expense, and Source to Pay.

Strong technical skills with Studio, Orchestrate, XML, JSON, XSLT.

Experience working within enterprise Finance organizations.

Ability to operate independently and lead technical delivery.

Clearly technical background (this role is not functional).

 Preferred Qualifications

Experience with BIRT reporting for Workday Financials or document outputs.

Workday certifications in Financials, Integrations, or Extend.

Experience in regulated, large-scale, or highly integrated environments.

Prior contract-to-hire experience with successful conversion.
