What is a work permit?

A work permit is an official document that allows a foreign national or a minor to work legally in a specific country or region. For adults, it is often required for non-citizens who want to work in a country where they do not have citizenship or permanent residency. For minors, a work permit is typically needed to ensure that young people are legally allowed to work and that their employment complies with labor laws. The requirements and application process for obtaining a work permit vary depending on the country, age, and type of job. Employers are usually required to verify that their employees have the necessary permits before hiring.

What are some common challenges faced by work permit coordinators, and how can they be addressed effectively?

Work Permit Coordinators often face challenges such as managing tight deadlines, ensuring compliance with complex regulations, and coordinating between multiple stakeholders like HR, legal teams, and government agencies. Staying organized and developing strong communication skills are essential to keep processes on track and minimize errors. Using specialized software and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of immigration laws can help streamline workflow and prevent costly mistakes. Building good working relationships with authorities and internal teams also helps resolve issues quickly and efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a work permit coordinator, and why are they important?

Job description

Auction and Estate Sale Specialist

Caring Transitions of Rochester

Part-Time  |  Rochester, NY  |  Field-Based  |  Starting at $18/hr

Part treasure hunter, part storyteller: find what is valuable and get it into the right hands.

Every estate we clear is full of things the world has forgotten how to value: mid-century furniture, vintage tools, costume jewelry, oddball collectibles, genuine finds. Your job is to spot them, research them, and turn them into money for our clients, while keeping cherished, well-made, and one-of-a-kind items out of the landfill and into the hands of people who will prize them the way the original owner did.

You will run items end-to-end on our CTBids online auction platform: hunting for value, researching what things are really worth, photographing and writing listings that sell, and managing pickup day. If you have an eye for what something is worth, this is the role where that instinct pays.

What you will actually do

  • Identify and separate saleable items, then group them into lots that maximize sale value (target $75 or more per lot)
  • Research items to confirm value and write accurate, compelling descriptions
  • Clean, stage, and photograph items, then list them in the CTBids Sellers app
  • Run pickup days: greet buyers, help them locate their lots, and keep things organized and friendly
  • Track how lots perform and bring ideas to improve results over time
  • Pitch in on final clear-out, donation coordination, and disposal as needed

Want to lead? There's a premium for it.

On days when you're leading the lotting, staging, and descriptions for auction items, you earn an extra $2.50/hr for every hour of that shift: coordinating with bidders, managing shipping & handling, managing pickup of items, directing whoever's helping you, handling payments, and closing the house out properly.
It's real responsibility, and it's how we find out who is ready for more. We would rather grow our leaders than hire them.
You will thrive here if you

  • Are curious about what things are worth, whether from selling online, visiting estate sales, wandering flea markets, or just always noticing value everywhere you look (no prior formal experience required)
  • Are a self-starter who picks up new software quickly
  • Are dependable, trustworthy, and detail-oriented in your writing and in person
  • Enjoy working with a range of people and can keep a pickup day running smoothly and professionally
  • Want more than a shift. You're interested in eventually running jobs, not just working them.

The practical details

Reliable personal transportation and a working smartphone required. Flexible Monday through Friday availability, roughly 9 to 4, approximately 10 to 20 hours per week to start with room to grow. Background check required. Starting pay is $18/hr, plus a $2.50/hr Shift Lead premium on any day you're running the crew.; candidates with demonstrated auction or resale experience may earn more. This role rewards a sharp eye and strong results.
