Job description

Customer Success Manager
Position Type: Full-Time / Exempt
Reports To: Chief Revenue Officer
Location: Remote (California) - field-based, with regular travel across the assigned territory
Department: Sales
Compensation: $100,000 - $110,000 base salary, plus commission under the Sales Compensation Plan (estimated on-target earnings of $175,000 - $200,000)
Position Summary
BAM is growing its Sales team and adding a Customer Success Manager to own the post-sale revenue relationship for a portfolio of school, district, and partner accounts. This is a sales role. The Customer Success Manager owns all renewals, drives upsells, and shares in expansion revenue across an assigned book of 30 or more accounts within a large California territory.
This is a field-based, relationship-driven role. The Customer Success Manager is the primary point of contact for their accounts after the initial sale - protecting and growing revenue by ensuring customers are successful, renewing on time, and expanding their partnership with BAM. The role requires significant travel across the territory and regular participation in conferences and industry events. The Customer Success Manager carries an individual quota and is a Participant in the Company's Sales Compensation Plan.
Key Responsibilities
Renewals Ownership
  • Own the full renewal lifecycle for an assigned portfolio of 30 or more accounts - forecasting, negotiating, and closing renewals on time and at or above target.
  • Protect gross and net revenue retention by proactively managing renewal timelines, risk, and customer health.

Upsell & Expansion
  • Identify and close upsell opportunities within existing accounts, including additional programs, sites, and Product Families.
  • Partner with the broader Sales team to source and share in expansion revenue across the assigned territory.

Account Portfolio Management
  • Manage a book of 30 or more school, district, and partner accounts as the primary post-sale owner in Salesforce.
  • Build account plans that map stakeholders, renewal dates, growth potential, and risk across the portfolio.

Relationship Management & Field Presence
  • Serve as the trusted, on-the-ground relationship owner for assigned accounts, meeting customers in person across a large geographic territory.
  • Represent BAM at conferences, industry events, and customer meetings, requiring regular travel across the assigned region.

Onboarding, Adoption & Customer Health
  • Ensure a smooth handoff from new-business sale to delivery, and drive program adoption and satisfaction that support renewal and growth.
  • Monitor account health signals and lead timely intervention to reduce churn risk.

Forecasting & CRM Hygiene
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date opportunity, renewal, and pipeline data in Salesforce.
  • Deliver a reliable renewal and expansion forecast to Sales leadership on the established cadence.

Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Partner with Operations, Program Delivery, and Sales leadership to resolve issues, remove barriers to renewal, and align on account strategy.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years in account management, customer success, renewals, or field sales carrying a quota or revenue-retention target, preferably in K-12 / education, youth enrichment, or B2B services.
  • Sales Orientation: Demonstrated success owning renewals and closing upsell / expansion revenue within an existing book of business. Experience cultivating district level relationships with leadership and administrators.
  • Travel: Ability and willingness to travel regularly across a large California territory (estimated up to 3 days of travel per week, minimum), including conferences and events; valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Systems: Proficiency with Salesforce (or a similar CRM) for pipeline, forecast, and account management.
  • Communication: Clear, credible, and persuasive with customers and internal partners; strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Organization: Able to manage a large portfolio of accounts and competing renewal timelines with minimal oversight.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Nice to Have: Experience selling to schools or districts; familiarity with afterschool, enrichment, or camp programs; existing relationships in the assigned California territory.
Scope of Role
  • Individual quota carrier and Participant in the Company's Sales Compensation Plan.
  • Primary post-sale revenue owner for a portfolio of 30 or more accounts across a large California territory.
  • Owns renewals in full, drives upsells, and shares in expansion revenue.
  • Field-based role with significant travel and regular event / conference attendance.
  • Partners with Sales and sales leadership and cross-functional teams; final pricing, terms, and territory decisions rest with Sales and executive leadership.
What Success Looks Like
  • Renewals close on time and at or above target; gross and net revenue retention are strong and predictable.
  • Deepening client relationships beyond day-to-day service delivery, turning satisfied clients into vocal advocates who renew, expand, and refer.
  • Upsell and expansion targets are met or exceeded within the assigned portfolio.
  • Accounts are healthy and well-managed, with risk identified and addressed early.
  • Forecasts are accurate and Salesforce data is clean and current.
  • BAM has a visible, trusted field presence across the territory and at key industry events.
