POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Work Control Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the work control program at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, SC. This senior leadership position ensures that work is planned, authorized, and executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with DOE requirements, ISMS principles, and QGS operational standards. The Work Control Manager leads a team of work control professionals and serves as the key interface between operations, maintenance, safety, engineering, and government client personnel. The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of work management experience in a DOE nuclear or similarly complex regulated industrial environment.
What You'll Do
  • Lead, manage, and continuously improve the site-wide work control program, including work package development, job hazard analysis, permit-to-work systems, and integrated work management (IWM) processes in full compliance with DOE Orders, ISMS, and site-specific procedures.
  • Supervise and develop a team of Work Control Supervisors and Specialists, providing day-to-day direction, performance management, coaching, and professional development to ensure a high-performing work management organization.
  • Serve as the primary interface with government clients on all matters related to work authorization, scheduling, and compliance; participate in client meetings, performance reviews, and regulatory assessments.
  • Oversee the development, review, and approval of work packages including technical procedures, radiological work permits (RWPs), industrial hygiene controls, fire protection impairments, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) authorizations.
  • Manage the work order backlog and schedule in coordination with Maintenance, Operations, and Project Management teams, optimizing workforce utilization and minimizing site schedule risk.
  • Lead root cause analyses and corrective action development for work control-related events and nonconformances; implement lessons learned across the work management organization.
  • Ensure all work control staff are properly trained, qualified, and current on applicable site and regulatory requirements; develop and maintain a robust qualification and training program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of QGS site objectives.

What You'll Bring
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering, Business Management, Industrial Safety, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and verifiable work experience in a DOE or nuclear environment.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive work management or maintenance planning experience, with at least 4 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in DOE Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS), work authorization processes, and nuclear safety requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO), radiological work permits, job hazard analysis, and fire protection impairment processes.
  • Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Maximo, SAP PM, or equivalent.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master degree in Engineering, Management, or a related field.
  • Experience at the Savannah River Site or another major DOE facility (Hanford, WIPP, INL, Y-12, Oak Ridge, etc.).
  • Experience with Integrated Work Management (IWM) systems or equivalent digital work control platforms.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Savannah River Site access badge and pass all required DOE background checks and personnel security requirements.
  • Valid U.S. driver license.

  • DOE Q or L Security Clearance.
  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or equivalent.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification.

  • Directly supervises 5 to 12 Work Control Supervisors and Specialists. Responsible for full people management including hiring, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and workforce development planning.
