JOB SUMMARY: The Senior CNC Operator – Wood Cutting is a highly skilled individual contributor responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient operation of CNC equipment used in the cutting and machining of wood-based materials. This role requires deep technical expertise within the Homag CNC ecosystem and extensive hands-on experience using WoodWOP to execute complex machining operations with consistency and precision.

This role is expected to share knowledge, provide guidance, and support the development of effective operating practices within the Homag and WoodWOP ecosystem among peer operators. Through technical excellence, attention to detail, and a strong ownership mindset, this position plays a critical part in establishing reliable processes, maintaining product quality, and supporting production efficiency as the organization expands its CNC capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of this job while exercising independent judgment and discretion.

  • Advanced proficiency operating Homag CNC routers and related equipment
  • Extensive experience using WoodWOP for CNC machining operations
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, cut lists, and work instructions
  • Solid understanding of machining fundamentals, tooling, fixturing, and material behavior in wood-based products
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based manufacturing environment
  • Commitment to safe machine operation and adherence to all safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining high quality standards

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on CNC operation experience within the Homag ecosystem
  • Significant production experience machining plywood, solid wood, and engineered wood products
  • Advanced WoodWOP experience required
  • CAM programming and CNC program development experience is advantageous but not required
  • Experience with 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machining is beneficial
  • Experience with two-face machining operations (flip operations) is beneficial
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade education preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Operate Homag CNC machines to cut and machine wood-based components in accordance with drawings, programs, and work instructions
  • Execute and adjust WoodWOP programs to ensure dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and efficient machine operation
  • Perform machine setup, tooling changes, and routine adjustments as required for production
  • Verify first-article and in-process parts to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve machining or equipment-related issues within the scope of the role
  • Serve as a technical resource for other CNC operators by sharing best practices, techniques, and process knowledge within the Homag and WoodWOP environment
  • Support training and informal skill development of peer operators through hands-on guidance and collaboration
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company standards
  • Communicate production issues, equipment concerns, or quality risks promptly to manufacturing leadership
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to machining efficiency, quality, and safety
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
