Job description

POSITION TITLE: Group Leader

DEPARTMENT: Youth Services

LOCATION(S): Various Locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan

REPORTS TO: Program Director/Assistant Director

SALARY RANGE: $20/hr up to 40hrs/week

DATE: Summer 2025

SCHEDULE: Summer Program Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 am-11 pm, Saturday-Sunday 3 pm-11 pm. School Year Program Hours: Monday-Friday, 2 pm -10 pm, Saturday 10 am - 9 pm.

Candidates are expected to work a 4-8-hr shift within program hours, with exact working schedules varying based on program needs.

JOB SUMMARY: A Group leader will assist in promoting growth, leadership and positive self-image in all elementary, middle and/or high school youths at Grand Street Settlement. A Group Leader will also provide competent supervision, develop and facilitate curriculum/activities such as homework help, STEM, health and wellness, performing arts and literacy.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS:

● High School Diploma required, some college or college degree preferred

● At least 1 year of youth development related experience that must include development of lesson plans, facilitation of classroom activities and classroom management.

● Valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification through recognized accrediting body preferred

● Ideal candidate must have the ability to build rapport with youths and create a positive, inclusive environment.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

● Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening, NYS Clearance Review Background Check, SEL, 3 Reference Checks, Physical w/updated TB test

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Create a culture of positive group cohesiveness and problem solve directly with youth in groups.

● Provide competent supervision of a group of children and participate in activities and trips; provide and maintain a safe and professional working environment.

● Design and implement project-based curriculum and facilitate activities based on the given themes.

● Work collaboratively with co-workers and cultivate a culture of professionalism and act as a role model for youth participants.

● Come ready to work with a positive attitude and provide support and encouragement to youths.

● Attend professional developments and training as assigned by supervisors.

● Know and follow daily schedules, protocols and procedures, safety drills and safety plans.

● Maintain adequate supplies in first aid and safety kits on a daily basis.

● Responsible for documenting incidents and communicating incidents with supervisors and/or parents and guardians.

● Coordinate community relations efforts and participate in outreach activities.

● Assist in the planning, organization and execution of community events.

● Maintain accurate records of youth participation, progress and other relevant information.

● Supervise and evaluate youth workers, SYEP, WLG, Americorps and interns.

● Clean, organize and maintain workspace and shared spaces throughout the facility.

● Other assignments as required by the program director.
