Your Contribution:

The Loan Officer I examines, evaluates, and authorizes or recommends approval of member applications for consumer loans and credit card accounts by following LCCU policies, procedures, and best practices. Works with members to help determine their needs and affordability of consumer loans based on LCCU's mission and core values.


As a vital member of the LCCU team, your responsibilities include the following:

Member Service: Provides a positive member experience by interviewing candidates to understand their needs, and offering solutions that align with LCCU's mission, vision, and values to create fully engaged financial relationships with members.

  • Interviews applicants, explores loan options and determines the best option for the member.
  • Explains the loan process, and requests specific information for loan applications.
  • Maintains contact with the member throughout the loan process.
  • Learns and applies LCCU service model concepts with members; is professional and polite in all interactions.
  • Identifies, develops, and maintains a quality network of relationships to serve as a source for new loan referrals.
  • Analyzes potential loan markets to develop prospects for loans.
  • Identifies needs, recommends solutions, and offers appropriate LCCU products.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of other credit union services, and promotes, explains, and sells them.
  • Handles member questions regarding loan products and provides basic information about mortgage loans.
  • Advises members with budgeting problems or financial difficulties as needed.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge about credit union products and services compared with other financial institutions.

Loan Analysis: Reviews and analyzes member applications and financial status to recommend approval or denial of loan applications based on internal/external loan policy, rules, regulations, and LCCU's lending philosophy.

  • Is knowledgeable about LCCU's lending philosophy and its connection to the mission and puts it into practice.
  • Complies with LCCU's loan policy, guidelines, procedures, and best practices and has a working knowledge of the lending industry.
  • Analyzes the applicant's financial status, credit, and property valuation to determine the feasibility of granting the loan.
  • Evaluates, and authorizes or recommends approval of applications for consumer and credit card accounts.
  • Complies with LCCU's loan policies, guidelines, procedures, and best practices.
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of the entire lending process, including interviewing and documentation.
  • Is knowledgeable about State and Federal regulations and LCCU policies/practices regarding collection and charge-offs.
  • Is knowledgeable of credit scoring models, reviewing credit reports, and Fair Credit Reporting.
  • Approves loan within specified limits or refers loan to loan committee.
  • Presents loans to the lending department and defends recommendations.
  • Grants advance on pre-approved credit ceilings.
  • Trains in the mortgage process and supports the mortgage loan function.

Loan Administration & Collections: Ensures loan agreements are complete and accurate and loan data for approved loans is in appropriate systems. Supports recovery and collections process.

  • Obtains appropriate documentation to support the loan, and accurately originates loan documents.
  • Ensures loan agreements are complete and accurate according to credit union policy.
  • Handles processing and maintaining loan file correspondence, including insurance and title information.
  • Performs necessary maintenance on database and scans appropriate documentation.
  • Participates in past-due loan collection and maintains accurate reports of collection efforts.
  • Provides support to others who assist in the collection process.
  • Balances loan data daily and produces necessary reports for daily/monthly reporting functions.
  • Provides service support in MSR functions such as new membership, accounts, changes, and wire transfers.
  • Answers the phone, files documents, and performs other clerical duties as needed.
  • Moves to and changes branches within the region as required.
  • Participates in community events.
  • Completes assigned training, and performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER BANK SECRECY ACT:

  • Completes required CTR procedures and reports on all cash transactions over $10,000.
  • Recognizes and reports suspicious practices as required.
  • Reports all structured member transactions and Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) as required.
  • Successfully completes required annual compliance training courses (BSA/Identity Theft).
