Wire Drawing information

What is a wire drawing?

A Wire Drawing job involves reducing the diameter of metal wire by pulling it through a series of dies to achieve the desired thickness. Workers operate and maintain wire drawing machines, ensuring proper tension, lubrication, and feed rates. They inspect the wire for defects and make adjustments to maintain quality standards. This process is commonly used in manufacturing electrical wires, cables, and metal products. Wire drawing operators must have attention to detail and knowledge of machine operation and material properties.

What does a typical workday look like for someone in a wire drawing role?

A typical day for a Wire Drawing professional involves setting up and operating wire drawing machines, monitoring production quality, and conducting routine equipment inspections. You’ll work closely with other machine operators, maintenance technicians, and quality control staff to ensure continuous operation and address any issues that arise. The environment is usually a manufacturing floor, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols and regular communication with team members. Consistency, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot equipment are all important for meeting production goals and quality standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the wire drawing position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Wire Drawing professional, you need a solid understanding of metallurgy, mechanical aptitude, and experience with industrial machinery, often supported by a high school diploma or vocational training. Familiarity with wire drawing machines, quality inspection tools, and safety protocols such as OSHA guidelines is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork are valuable soft skills that contribute to success in this role. These competencies ensure efficient production processes, minimize defects, and maintain a safe, organized work environment.

Job description

Description:

Hands-on Product Manager to join our high performing Product Management team. This individual contributor role is focused on day-to-day product execution: managing product help-desk requests and pricing approvals, educating the commercial organization on assigned portfolios, and owning tactical new product development (NPD) and lifecycle activities. The role converts market and customer inputs into manufacturable requirements, runs NPD activities, supports pricing/margin actions, and coordinates across sourcing, operations, quality, engineering, sales, and marketing to ensure timely, high-quality delivery. An engineering degree is not required; curiosity for cable fundamentals and solid financial/Excel skills are essential.

Responsibilities

Product Operations & Help Desk

  • Serve as primary owner for product help-desk requests for assigned SKUs: triage, investigate, resolve or escalate, and close tickets with documented actions and timelines.
  • Maintain and update product documentation, spec sheets, sell sheets, and FAQs used by sales and service teams.
  • Track recurring help-desk themes and recommend durable product/process fixes.

Pricing, Commercial Transactions & Approvals

  • Execute pricing and transactional tactics for the portfolio: prepare price change requests, run margin impact analyses, and implement approved price updates in systems.
  • Review and recommend pricing exceptions; follow approval workflows and document rationale.
  • Support bid responses and quotation technical input for complex requests.

Tactical New Product Development (NPD)

  • Own tactical NPD projects from requirements through launch: write product requirement briefs, define critical specifications, produce or coordinate manufacturing-ready drawings, and manage sample/qualification cycles.
  • Lead gating activities: pilot runs, sample approvals, launch checklists, readiness reviews, and initial yield tracking.
  • Coordinate corrective actions and lessons-learned during ramp and early production.

Roadmap, Lifecycle & Inventory

  • Maintain and prioritize the short-term product roadmap for assigned SKUs, aligned to business priorities.
  • Manage product lifecycle tasks: release control, sustainment, cost-down initiatives, inventory stocking strategy, and end-of-life transitions.
  • Recommend SKU rationalization or consolidation opportunities based on data and commercial input.

Cross-Functional Execution & Supplier Interaction

  • Work daily with sourcing, operations, quality, and engineering to clarify requirements, resolve production issues, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Communicate clearly with internal engineering and suppliers to confirm drawings, process controls, and acceptance criteria where applicable.

Financials & Analytics

  • Build and maintain Excel models and margin analyses to support pricing decisions, launches, and cost-down projects.
  • Track product KPIs (revenue, margin, forecast accuracy, OTIF, quality metrics) and run regular reviews with stakeholders.
  • Translate financial targets into tactical product actions and measurable outcomes.

Sales Enablement & Training

  • Develop technical messaging, ROI/cost-benefit analyses, and training materials for the field.
  • Deliver or coordinate product training sessions and ensure field readiness for launches and changes.
  • Act as product escalation for sales on technical, application, and pricing questions.
Requirements:

Required qualifications

  • 3+ years hands-on product management, or commercial/product operations experience
  • B2B manufacturing, industrial products, or distribution, specifically wire & cable experience preferred but not require.
  • Demonstrable experience converting market/customer inputs into product specs and manufacturable requirements.
  • Proven execution on NPD, change control, and lifecycle management.
  • Strong financial fluency and advanced Excel skills: margin modeling, scenario analysis, and business case support.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with sourcing, operations, quality, and engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and stakeholder alignment skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; engineering degree not required but preferred.
  • Commutable to Macedonia, OH and in-office at least 3 days per week.
  • Willingness to travel ~25% (domestic and occasional international).
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Strong bias for action and an “extreme ownership” mindset.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience specifically in wire/cable, interconnects, or premium industrial hardware products.
  • Familiarity and ability to read/interpret manufacturing specifications and drawings.

Core competencies

  • Execution orientation: reliably drives ticket resolution, launches, and corrective actions to completion.
  • Business & financial acumen: converts financial targets into tactical priorities and measures results.
  • Technical curiosity: rapidly learns product fundamentals and applies them in troubleshooting and specification work.
  • Cross-functional influence: gains alignment across operations, sourcing, quality, and sales.
  • Analytical rigor: uses data to prioritize requests, identify cost-down opportunities, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Customer focus: partners with sales and customers to capture requirements and resolve field issues.
  • Collaboration & learning: mentors peers, shares knowledge, and contributes to process improvements.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position with standard office hours.
  • Flexibility may be required to support executive schedules, events, or urgent priorities.
  • This position is eligible for the hybrid schedule of 3 days in office per week.
