Job Description
The Screw Machine Operator is responsible for operating single or multiple spindle lathe type screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock. This includes loading and unloading parts, basic part inspection using hard gauges and measurement tools, routine 6S, laboring on/off, transacting completions and scrap, part quality inspection using a CMM, changing broken/worn tools, performing minor preventive maintenance, following setup instructions to switch between jobs, interpreting CMM reports, making CNC program offsets for shift/drift or tool length/wear compensation, and making basic CNC program changes. In this Role, your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Read blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be machined, and tooling instructions such as cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts, and cutting tools to be used.
  • Positions and secures specified collets, bushings, and stock pushers onto stock feeding mechanism and loads bar stock into feeding mechanism.
  • Re-sharpens (grinds), form & shave tools
  • Adding lube and cutting oil to machines and greasing when necessary.
  • Moves controls to cycle machine through settings, stopping machine and adjusting tool positions and machine controls to allow for operating factors such as timing, clearance between moving parts, and chip removal

  • Basic understanding of surface grinders and ability to use surface grinding equipment.
