Windows System Administrator

The Opportunity:

As a Senior Windows Systems Administrator, you will support the reliability, security, and optimization of enterprise infrastructure within the Department of Veterans Affairs' environment. You will administer, monitor, and maintain Windows-centric enterprise systems, supporting Linux dependencies, storage platforms, backup solutions, and reporting tools that enable mission-critical applications and data services.

In this role, you will maintain a holistic understanding of applications, operating systems, hardware, and software dependencies. You will provide guidance on overall system design, support network and infrastructure integration, manage patching and lifecycle updates across lower environments while supporting production stability as needed. You will troubleshoot complex issues to meet customer needs and serve as backup support to the lead System Administrator and Architect, ensuring continuity of operations and reducing reliance on a single technical resource, particularly as the program evolves toward hybrid and cloud-native architecture patterns.

You will work closely with application teams, infrastructure engineers, and security stakeholders to ensure system availability, performance, and compliance. This includes managing on-premises and hybrid infrastructure, proactively identifying risks, and implementing improvements that enhance stability, security, and operational efficiency across the environment.

Join us. The world can't wait.

  • Experience managing SAN environments using HP B-Series SAN Network Advisor to ensure reliable connectivity, optimal throughput, and fault resolution

  • Experience implementing and maintaining enterprise backup and recovery solutions using HP Data Protector, Microsoft DPM, and Commvault for data protection, disaster recovery, and compliance

  • Experience with enterprise monitoring and reporting tools, including SolarWinds

  • Experience with scripting and automation using tools such as PowerShell or Bash

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience with Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) and enterprise perimeter security controls

  • Experience supporting data analytics or reporting platforms in large-scale enterprise environments

  • Experience working with cross-functional application and infrastructure teams to resolve complex system issues

  • Experience supporting legacy and modernized systems in transition or hybrid environments

  • Knowledge of storage networking concepts, SAN architectures, and performance optimization

  • Ability to provide operational leadership and mentorship to junior administrators
