Job description

Overview
The Wet Coating Technician at QES is a hands-on contributor within the coatings department, responsible for the consistent, high-quality application of industrial wet coatings on metal PDC frames.
This role requires a proactive mindset focused on safety, quality, delivery, and continuous improvement. The technician works cross-functionally with production, quality, and maintenance teams to drive results and support lean workflow initiatives that reduce waste and improve efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare metal surfaces through sanding, masking, and cleaning to ensure proper paint adhesion.
Apply wet paint using HVLP or air-assisted spray systems, meeting specified mil thickness and finish quality.
Participate in daily huddles and visual management activities to align with production goals and shift targets.
Conduct first-article and in-process inspections to verify conformance to specifications.
Maintain accurate batch records, material logs, and support standardized work documentation.
Identify and communicate process deviations or equipment concerns using problem-solving tools such as 5 Whys or PDCA.
Support 5S initiatives in the coating booth and prep areas to ensure a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
Collaborate across shifts and departments to enhance workflow and foster a culture of shared accountability.
Clean and maintain spray guns, booths, and PPE in line with preventive maintenance and visual control practices.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials following SDS and environmental protocols.

Qualifications
1+ year of experience in industrial or automotive paint application preferred.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles (5S, visual controls, standardized work) is a strong plus.
Comfortable using wet film gauges, viscosity cups, and interpreting job travelers.
Ability to pass the respirator fit test and work safely with flammable materials.
Strong communication skills and a desire to contribute to team-based problem-solving.
Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive motion tasks.

Available Shifts:

  1. Swing Shift: Monday through Friday 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
  2. Days Shift: Monday through Friday 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
    Although the Paint Technician position requires relevant experience, QES will consider candidates who demonstrate a willingnessto learn with a strong work ethic for our Paint Tech Trainee position.
