Job description

Process CHP 180, Vehicle Reports. Separates, organizes, and types data to enter CHP 180 information into the CLETS Electronic Record Tracking (CERT). Verifies information contained on the report is correct. Mails notices to the registered and legal owners. Assigns felony numbers, if applicable, in the Microsoft Excel Database and files as required. Sends second party correction notices through CERT for towed, impounded, or stolen vehicles by typing a "change needed" message in CERT or notifying dispatch to correct CERT, CLETS, or the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS). Accepts and answers telephone inquiries from citizens, allied agencies, and other CHP Areas regarding the CHP 180 process and/or vehicles. Processes insurance requests for CHP 180 forms and writes up receipts if money is received. Processes CHP 729s, Uniform Crime Reports, and enters the information into a multi-agency database (Mark43), which is reconciled on a monthly basis. Completes the monthly National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Validation Report and submits the report to the Department of Justice. Processes requests for background investigations and prepares the Record Request Response Letter for the Area Commander's signature. Provides back-up and assists clerical staff at the front counter as needed. Assists professional staff by pulling and copying miscellaneous reports. Schedules car seat appointments and assists in processing requests for Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspections. Receives and processes requests from parties of interest for collision reports, CHP 180 reports, and other miscellaneous reports. Generates receipts for the sale of reports and publications. Processes mail when received. Answers phone calls professionally and courteously as needed.
