This position offers flexibility, higher pay rates, and the opportunity to work in various clinical settings. Weekend travel nurses often work with staffing agencies and may travel locally or across regions based on facility needs.

What does a weekend travel nurse do?

A weekend travel nurse works part-time in different locations. In this role, you cover Saturday and Sunday shifts at medical facilities that are open on the weekends, such as hospitals and clinics. You perform various nursing duties based on the needs of the place where you work, including taking patient vital signs, documenting patient medical history, preparing exam rooms, and assisting physicians when necessary. Some practical or vocational nurses work in assisted living facilities when they need to fill shifts for nurses who have requested time off. A weekend nurse typically finds temporary postings through a staffing agency, or they may be on-call at the hospitals or clinics where they work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend travel nurse, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Travel Nurse, you need a robust background in clinical nursing, a current RN license, and experience in various care settings. Familiarity with mobile charting systems, electronic health records (EHRs), and hospital-specific protocols is typically required.
