Job description

Legal Secretary

A leading law firm is seeking a legal secretary for its San Francisco office. This role provides high-quality administrative and clerical support to a team of attorneys, handling document preparation from drafting shells and formatting to proofreading pleadings, correspondence, and memoranda, along with preparing tables of contents and tables of authorities. The legal secretary also manages new case intake, including conflict checks, file opening, and engagement letters, and supports government filings and closing materials as needed for the team's practice. Daily responsibilities include time entry, client billing (proforma review, cover letters, and distribution to clients and accounting), and organizing files both physically and within the firm's document management system. The role also covers scheduling depositions, hearings, and meetings, coordinating attorney travel, processing expense reimbursements and vendor invoices, and maintaining client and contact databases. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent (college degree a plus) and at least five years of legal secretarial experience in a relevant practice area such as litigation, labor & employment, international trade, real estate, or public finance, including two years supporting a billing attorney. State and federal court filing experience, including e-filing, and strong MS Office proficiency are required. This is an hourly, non-exempt role with a base salary range of $96,000 to $132,000 per year.
