Job description

Reporting to the Director of Religious & Spiritual Life, the Chapel Band Worship Leader will provide musical and spiritual leadership for McMurry University's Chapel services. This role focuses on fostering a worshipful environment that enhances the spiritual life of the campus community. The Worship Leader will oversee the planning, preparation, and delivery of worship music in collaboration with the University Chaplains and student musicians.
Part-Time (6-8 Hours per Week) | 10 Month Contract (Mid-August through Mid-May)
Duties & Responsibilities:
Chapel Band Worship Leader will take primary responsibility for the following:
  • Coordinate & Lead Weekly Chapel Band Rehearsal
    • Lead student musicians in planning & preparing music for Chapel
    • Lead rehearsal, including support of student musicians in Chapel Band to develop student leadership through both musical and spiritual growth
    • Recruit, welcome, and integrate new student musicians into Chapel Band in coordination with Religious & Spiritual Life Staff
    • Coordinate setup of portable sound system and necessary equipment during or prior to rehearsal
  • Plan & Lead Worship Music for Weekly Chapel Services (Tuesdays, 11am - 12pm)
    • Lead brief sound check with student musicians prior to start of Chapel
    • Lead Chapel Band in facilitating all music for weekly Chapel services
    • Coordinate tear-down and storage of portable sound system and necessary equipment after Chapel
  • Administrative Support of Chapel Band
    • Prepare & distribute chord charts, lyric sheets, videos/audio files, etc. as needed to support student musicians (using Song Select platform)
    • Input song selections into Planning Center Services
    • Coordinate with RSL Student Worker for preparation of lyric slides (using ProPresenter software)
    • Maintain, organize, and advise on purchasing of instruments, cables, and sound equipment as needed to support the ministry of Chapel Band
    • Meet periodically with Religious & Spiritual Life Staff for planning of Chapel Services
    • Coordinate CCLI Reporting with Religious & Spiritual Life Admin Assistant
  • Special Chapel Worship Opportunities
    • Organize Chapel Band in preparing to lead special worship opportunities throughout the year, including services such as Welcome Week Chapel, Family Weekend Chapel, Final Ala Cumba Memorial Service (Homecoming), Night of Worship, or other opportunities as may arise
    • Organize Chapel Band in preparing to lead special worship opportunities throughout the year outside of campus, such as "McMurry Sundays" at local congregations, Youth Camps, Conferences, or other settings where Chapel Band is invited to lead worship as ambassadors from McMurry University

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience in worship leading and music ministry
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively mentor and collaborate with students
  • Ability to organize and lead rehearsals efficiently
  • Commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive worship environment
  • Flexibility and creativity in adapting to the needs of a diverse campus community

Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Some College Hours

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Music, Worship Studies, or related field
