JOB SUMMARY
The Department of UConn Recreation at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, announces the opening of two full-time positions of Student Services Program Assistant 2 (Coordinator of Competitive Sports). UConn Recreation is seeking applicants for two positions as Coordinator for Competitive Sports. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, Director of Competitive Sports, the Coordinator- Competitive Sports manages oversight of the daily administrative, operational, and programmatic support of the Competitive Sports unit. Position implements a wide variety of day-to-day responsibilities designed to ensure operational performance and provide quality service to members of the Student Recreation Center and associated competitive teams. Weekend and evening work is required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serves as a primary advisor to assigned Club Sport teams. Provides leadership and guidance to student officers specific to team management, annual budget development, and compliance matters.
  • Plan, develop, promote and execute a comprehensive ongoing schedule of Intramural programs.
  • Provides oversite and leadership as the site manager for league and tournament competitions. Coordinates all aspects of the competition site management including equipment safety check and maintenance. Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and operational resources.
  • Ensures program policy compliance specific to safety, risk mitigation, risk management, and departmental policy for all competitive sports programming. Ensure program compliance specific to safety and risk management.
  • Coordinates financial transactions for the department including purchasing, procurement, and invoicing, specific to club sports and/or provides administrative and operational support for rental clients utilizing Recreation space.
  • Develops, plans, budgets, schedules, and markets the comprehensive competitive sports program.
  • Reviews operating procedures for efficiency and effectiveness, makes recommendations for changes or improvements.
  • Serves as a resource to individuals and groups on matters relating to program activities, administrative policies and procedures.
  • Provides direct support for of events hosted by UConn Recreation and provides logistical for programmatic units with the delivery of services.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of all programmatic equipment and operational resources.
  • Collaborate with Recreation Human Resources during Centralized Student Employee recruitment, hiring, recognition, and retention processes.
  • Implement ongoing student employee training and evaluate student employee performance including annual performance evaluations.
  • Instruct CPR/First Aid/AED classes for student employees and the UConn Community.
  • Provide supervisory support to student employees in the performance of their daily responsibilities, including the creation of work schedule and verifying hours worked.
  • Provides Associate Director with program assessment including collecting, compiling, and reviewing programmatic data. Recommend operational and programmatic changes based on continuing need assessment.
  • Participates in various committees and advisory groups.
  • Additional duties as requested by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. Two (2) years of related experience.
  3. Current First-Aid/CPR/AED Certification or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Documented professional experience in competitive sports.
  2. Direct experience working with camp counseling, hosting events, facility management, event management or customer service.
  3. One (1) or more officiating certifications related to applicable competitive sports.
  4. Proficient with software applications related to department operations (e.g., Fusion, Connect2Concepts, SubItUp).
  5. First-Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire.
  6. Demonstrated experience facilitating employee development and training.
  7. Demonstrated organizational skills necessary to independently manage projects.

Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
Incumbents may be required to operate a university vehicle and, as such, are required to have a driver's license and the ability to acquire a Passenger "A" endorsement or equivalent for this appointment.
