Job description

Powder Coating & Equipment Maintenance Technician
Position Summary
This role combines powder coating operations with responsibility for maintaining coating equipment, wash systems, and related production machinery. The technician ensures high-quality finishes while keeping all systems running efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities
Powder Coating Operations
  • Prepare parts for coating (cleaning, masking, sanding, blasting)
  • Apply powder coating using electrostatic spray equipment
  • Load/unload parts onto racks or conveyor systems
  • Monitor and control curing ovens (temperature, time, flow)
  • Inspect coated parts for quality, thickness, and defects
  • Rework or touch up as needed

Wash System Operations (Pre-Treatment)
  • Operate and monitor parts washers and pretreatment systems
  • Check chemical levels, pH, and temperature of wash tanks
  • Perform routine cleaning of washer stages and nozzles
  • Ensure proper drying before coating
  • Troubleshoot contamination or adhesion issues

Equipment Maintenance
  • Perform preventive maintenance on:
    • Spray guns and powder systems
    • Conveyor lines
    • Ovens and curing systems
    • Washers and pumps
  • Clean and maintain filters, hoses, and spray booths
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and minimize downtime
  • Coordinate with maintenance or supervisors for major repairs
  • Keep maintenance logs and records

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in powder coating or industrial finishing preferred
  • Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of pumps, motors, and fluid systems (for washers)
  • Ability to read gauges, meters, and equipment settings
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with pretreatment systems (phosphate, zirconium, etc.)
  • Knowledge of electrostatic coating systems
  • OSHA safety knowledge
