What is a weekend Portuguese speaking nanny?

Weekend Portuguese Speaking Nannies are childcare professionals who provide care for children during weekends and are fluent in Portuguese. Their responsibilities often include supervising children, organizing activities, preparing meals, and helping with homework, all while communicating in Portuguese to support language development. These nannies are especially valuable to families who want their children to learn or maintain fluency in Portuguese, or who require childcare support over the weekend due to work or personal commitments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend Portuguese speaking nanny?

To thrive as a Weekend Portuguese Speaking Nanny, you need experience in childcare, fluency in Portuguese, and basic first aid or CPR certification. Familiarity with child safety protocols and communication tools like messaging apps for updates is often required. Patience, cultural sensitivity, and strong interpersonal skills help build trust with both children and parents. These skills ensure a safe, nurturing, and culturally enriching environment for the children in your care.

What are some common challenges faced by a weekend Portuguese speaking nanny, and how can they be managed?

Weekend Portuguese Speaking Nannies often balance the expectations of both the children and their parents, which can sometimes conflict with one another. It may be challenging to engage children in educational activities, especially if they prefer leisure time on weekends. Additionally, maintaining consistency with weekday routines while introducing Portuguese language practice requires creativity and patience. Job description

Portuguese-Speaking ROTA Nanny - 2 Positions
Location: Sarasota, FL
Schedule: 7 Days On / 7 Days Off | Live-Out
Compensation: $80,000/year
Benefits: $300/month health insurance stipend, paid vacation, paid holidays when possible, relocation assistance
Travel: Regular domestic and international travel; additional $100/day while traveling
Start Date: Flexible for the right candidates
A warm, involved private family in Sarasota, FL is seeking two experienced, Portuguese-speaking Nannies to join their household on a long-term basis. The family has two boys, ages 8 and 2½, and is looking for nurturing, engaging, proactive childcare professionals who enjoy working collaboratively with hands-on parents.
The older child is homeschooled and maintains a structured schedule with his homeschool teacher and extracurricular activities. The younger child spends much of his day at home, so the Nanny will take an active role in creating fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate days through play, activities, outings, and new experiences.
This is a live-out rotational position with a 7-days-on/7-days-off schedule. It is not a traditional 24/7 live-in ROTA role. During the working week, hours will generally be scheduled in advance and are typically Monday-Friday from approximately 8:00 AM-6:00 PM, with some evening and weekend coverage depending on the family's activities. Weekend hours will vary and schedules will be communicated in advance whenever possible.
During the on-rotation week, the Nanny should remain available when needed and be able to arrive at the family's residence within approximately one hour. During the off-rotation week, the Nanny is completely off duty.
Responsibilities
  • Provide attentive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate care for two children
  • Create engaging days for the younger child through age-appropriate play, activities, outings, and new experiences
  • Support the older child's homeschool and extracurricular schedule as needed
  • Collaborate closely with involved parents and other household staff
  • Assist with children's schedules, routines, activities, and transportation
  • Help maintain consistency and organization within the children's daily routines
  • Encourage the children's continued exposure to and use of the Portuguese language
  • Travel domestically and internationally with the family
  • Assist with packing, preparation, and children's needs during family travel
  • Provide occasional evening and weekend coverage during the on-rotation week
  • Remain flexible as schedules change based on family activities and travel
  • Provide occasional overnight childcare if needed, with additional compensation when care falls beyond the normal scope of the position
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and engaging environment for the children at all times
Travel
Travel is a regular component of this position, with the family typically traveling every month or two. The children accompany the family on their travels, including regular trips to Brazil.
Fluent Portuguese is required, as maintaining the children's natural exposure to and use of the language is an important priority for the family.
All work-related travel expenses are covered, and the Nanny will receive an additional $100 per travel day while traveling with the family.
Qualifications
  • Fluent Portuguese required
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional childcare experience preferred
  • Previous private household experience strongly preferred
  • Experience caring for toddlers and school-aged children
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Valid passport and ability to travel internationally
  • Confident swimmer
  • Comfortable traveling regularly with a private family
  • Organized, dependable, proactive, and flexible
  • Engaging and creative with children's activities
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with involved parents
  • Team-oriented and able to work effectively alongside other household staff
  • Professional, discreet, and respectful of family privacy
  • Able to remain flexible with occasional evening and weekend scheduling
  • Seeking a stable, long-term position
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Portuguese-speaking Nanny seeking a long-term rotational position with a welcoming and involved family. The ideal candidate will be nurturing and engaging with the children while also being highly dependable, flexible, and comfortable with regular travel.
