Job description

Description Assists the Aquatics Coordinator with the daily operations of the pool and aquatics programs, including supervision of aquatics staff and active participation in lifeguard stand duties. Supports the Coordinator in the organization and management of aquatics programs such as developing swim lessons, swim team, and additional aquatic activities. Assists both the Coordinator and the Aquatic Operations Specialist in monitoring, identifying, and responding to pool chemical levels, equipment functionality, and maintenance needs.

Performs safety-related tasks to ensure a secure environment for all pool patrons, including preventing and responding to emergencies, monitoring pool activities, enforcing water safety rules and regulations. Assists the Coordinator in overseeing set up and delivery of programs, ensuring proper safety protocols are followed, assisting with staff preparedness, monitoring event operations, and helping address participant questions or issues that arise during events. Essential Job Functions Assist the Coordinator with daily pool operations and programming, serving in a supervisory capacity for LG-I staff by addressing staff concerns, responding to patron questions and issues, and resolving programming-related inquiries or problems.

Relay and communicate daily events to the coordinator and the aquatic operations specialist, maintaining consistent communication regarding pressing issues, operational needs, or relevant updates. Assist in responding to and resolving customer issues and complaints. Provide necessary notifications, signage, equipment, and preparation to ensure patron safety and accessibility.

Lead swim lessons and program setup in the software, including scheduling lessons, and assigning instructors. Communicate updates and needs to the coordinator and fellow staff. Instruct swim lessons as needed and address patron questions or concerns regarding swim lessons/programming in a timely and professional manner.

Serve as the swim team coach and assist with team management and communications. With input from the coordinator and other coaches, plan and organize swim team practices. Responding to swim team inquiries, questions, and issues.

Support the management of software information and assist with team communication, scheduling, and overall team management functions. Assist in responding to and resolving customer issues and complaints. Follow up with the coordinator and appropriate facility staff to address patron concerns and elevate matters to management when necessary.

Communicate with the Coordinator, Aquatic Operations Specialist, and lifeguards to provide needed notifications, signage, equipment, and preparation to ensure patron safety and accessibility. Performs technical tasks to ensure the safety of all pool patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies throughout the Bodenhamer facility. Monitors swimming pool activities, recognizing and responds to emergency situations, enforcing water safety rules and regulations, and completes pool maintenance tasks in compliance with established policies and procedures.

Complete related administrative tasks for the department, including logs, incident and emergency reports, pool procedures, inventory records, and other required documentation. Responds to radio calls to assess and properly address emergencies within the building and adjacent facilities. Communicate with staff using walkie talkie radios to ensure coordinated and effective response efforts.

Minimum Qualifications Required Education and Experience: High School Education or equivalent is desirable; and completion of American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification course with current certification in good standing. Experience as lifeguard preferred, supervisory experience preferred, pool maintenance knowledge preferred; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Licenses and Certifications (depending upon assignment): Necessary: American Red Cross Lifeguard with CPR/First Aid for Professional Rescuer (r.24), American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or ability to obtain within 120 days of hire, USA Swimming coaching certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire

Additional Position Information IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS: Serve as the first point of contact for programs, swim lessons and swim team inquiries. Maintains the safety of aquatic facilities, programs, employees and patrons. Work hours will vary based on the operational needs, pool season, events, and programs assigned throughout the year.

Hours may include holidays, weekends, and evenings and on call when off duty if needed. Inspects and operates pool pumps, filters, heaters, pool chemicals, and related equipment. May review and complete documents.
