Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Medical Assistant for Student Health Services. We welcome motivated candidates who value stability and are seeking a long term role within a supportive, student centered environment. This is a full time, benefitted position requiring 40 hours per week. Responsibilities include clinical activities, as well as front-office coverage when needed. Duties include but are not limited to preparing patients to be seen, taking and documenting vital signs, performing phlebotomy and point-of-care labs, processing specimens, assisting with procedures, delivering basic first aid & over-the-counter medications, administering immunizations & injections. Some coverage of front office duties including patient check-in, scheduling, answering phones, and processing immunization records when needed. The ability to recognize an emergency situation and initiate emergency care is essential. Duties are mainly on the Gainesville campus but must have flexibility and transportation to cover Dahlonega and Oconee campus infrequently. Flexibility to work occasional weekends and/or travel to other campuses for special events. Computer skills necessary for electronic medical records and UNG Banner system.

Responsibilities
  • Proficient in preparing patient for appointment, performing phlebotomy and CLIA-waived laboratory tests and processing lab specimens. Maintains medical supplies inventory and stocking. Completes tasks as requested by provider or nurse supervisor.
  • Provides front office coverage with patient check-in and scheduling, answers questions regarding immunization requirements per the BOR, processes immunizations to ensure students comply with USG requirements
  • Proficiency in documenting legibly and correctly in medical records including electronic medical records and Banner systems.
  • Assists with training new clinical staff related to job-specific duties.
  • Attend meetings as required. Assists with special events such as Nighthawk Previews, Orientations, and Corps of Cadets FROG week support.

Knoweldge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Computer skills
  • Proficiency in medical assistant skills required for position.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and FERPA regulations and patient confidentiality.
  • Organized, communicates well, interpersonal skills with students, faculty/staff and parents.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience
  • One year experience as a medical assistant; will consider motivated new graduates.
  • Current Clinical Medical Assistant certification. CPR and AED certified.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Family practice or urgent care experience preferred.
