Job description

The Packaging Machine Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining automated packaging equipment used in the bread production process. This role ensures that finished bread products are properly sliced, bagged, sealed, labeled, and prepared for distribution while maintaining product quality, food safety, and production efficiency.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Support without hesitation General Plant Safety, Food Safety, Food Defense Initiatives and Good Manufacturing Practices with an understanding that these are absolutes and are Priority #1.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and company safety policies to include but not limited to wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Operate bread packaging machines including slicers, baggers, sealers, and labeling equipment.
  • Monitor production lines to ensure bread products are packaged correctly and meet quality standards.
  • Adjust machine settings for different bread sizes, packaging materials, and production runs.
  • Load packaging materials such as bags, clips, labels, and film into machines.
  • Inspect packaged products for proper sealing, labeling accuracy, and product quality.
  • Ensure proper flow of product and bags with equipment, full understanding of how equipment touch panels work, correct settings and specifications are being run for each specific product to include line speed, bag size, correct product count in the bag/tray, etc.
  • Ensure proper dates and/or Julian codes are listed on the product/packaging/boxes
  • Watch over Quick Lock machine and maintain full rolls of Kwik locks
  • Know where emergency STOP, and START/STOP buttons are located
  • Clear minor jams and troubleshoot basic mechanical issues on packaging equipment.
  • Coordinate with production, oven and maintenance teams to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary work areas in compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Record production data such as output, downtime, and packaging materials used.
  • Complete all required quality assurance and RedZone checks, paperwork and accurately document this information as required.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays as well as overtime during high production periods.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires some physical strain such as long periods of standing, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting overhead. Repetitive movements such as loading packaging materials.ย  Ability to lift approximately 35 -45 pounds.ย  Ability to work around moving machinery and conveyor systems.ย 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Working around moving machinery, power equipment, slippery floors and dusty areas.ย  Very hot conditions during summer seasons. Protective clothing such as uniform, gloves and slip resistant shoes are required.
