Description

Bear Lake Memorial Healthcare is seeking a hard-working, dependable, and motivated Medical Laboratory Scientist. The selected candidate will perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Obtain specimens, cultivating, isolating and identifying microorganisms for analysis.
  • Consult with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found.
  • Examine cells stained with dye to locate abnormalities.
  • Prepare standard volumetric solutions and reagents to be combined with samples, following standardized formulas or procedures.
  • Set up, adjust, maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment.
  • Analyze the results of tests and experiments to ensure conformity to specifications, using special mechanical and electrical devices.
  • Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes and perform blood counts.
  • Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood and urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases, and enter findings into computer.
  • Shared on-call is required for nights and weekends.
  • Performs venous and arterial blood draws, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood sample.
  • Other related laboratory tasks as assigned.ย 

Requirements:

  • Any employment offer is contingent upon producing documents establishing eligibility to work in the United States; satisfactorily passing the pre-employment drug screen; employee health evaluation (if required), establishing ability to perform the essential functions of the position; and the satisfactory completion of a criminal background check with finger prints, and reference checks.
  • Using mathematics and scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
  • Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Bachelor of Biological Science Degree required.
  • Medical Laboratory Scientistย certification through ASCP or AMT OR willingness to obtain.
  • Strong commitment to Quality Assurance.
  • Must be motivated and able to work independently.
  • Reliability is essential.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to get along well with coworkers, patients, etc.
  • Adherence to confidentiality requirements.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to contribute to the culture and/or mission of the most caring hospital.
