POSITION TITLE: Library Media Assistant (K-12)


F.L.S.A. STATUS: Non-Exempt 
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will hold a current Missouri substitute teacher certification and possess the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable. 



REPORTS TO: Library Media Specialist and Building Administrators.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time

JOB GOAL: The Library Media Assistant will provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for maintaining the library collections; identifying age-appropriate and instructionally appropriate library resources for students and staff; and performing clerical functions related to collection, processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of library materials and/or textbooks

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Support the Library Media Specialist in providing library services and instructional assistance.
  2. Assist students and staff with library resources, technology, and research.
  3. Maintain an organized, welcoming, and functional library environment.
  4. Manage circulation, including checking materials in and out.
  5. Shelve, organize, and inventory library materials.
  6. Support library technology, equipment, and resource preparation.
  7. Create displays and prepare instructional materials.
  8. Promote responsible use of library resources and facilities.
  9. Assist with daily library operations and other assigned duties.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist with student supervision and maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
  2. Support literacy initiatives, reading programs, and library events.
  3. Help troubleshoot basic technology issues for students and staff.
  4. Process new materials, including labeling, covering, and catalog preparation.
  5. Maintain displays, bulletin boards, and promotional materials.
  6. Monitor and encourage appropriate student behavior in the library.
  7. Collaborate with staff to support classroom and schoolwide instructional needs.
  8. Assist with special projects, reports, and administrative tasks as needed.
  9. Participate in professional development and training opportunities.
  10. Contribute to creating an engaging and student-centered library experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: An individual who holds this position is frequently required to stoop, bend and kneel. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
