Job description

Job Summary

This is a Weekend Position consisting of working 46 out of 52 weekends in Lakeland Medical Center, SJ/NL as the need arises. The weekend is defined as shifts between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm on Saturday & Sunday. Position includes working one summer & one winter Holiday weekend.
Work as a productive member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team and utilize appropriate diagnostic and treatment techniques in order to provide direct care for patients of all ages with speech, language, cognitive and/or swallowing deficits in accordance with ASHA's generally accepted scope of practice. Provide education and support to patients and families regarding diagnosis and treatment. Report on the status of patients through appropriate documentation and verbal communication procedures. Maintain departmental equipment and assist in requesting new equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Promote Lakeland Regional Health System philosophy to ensure quality care and guest relations.

  • Evaluates the speech, language, cognitive and/or swallowing status as appropriate, of patients who are referred for Speech-Language Pathology services and determines an appropriate Speech-Language Pathology diagnosis.

  • Administer appropriate treatment to patients within the scope of practice of Speech-Language Pathology and departmental guidelines.

  • Maintain and complete accurate documentation of patient and departmental records.

  • Assure an appropriate continuum of patient care through effective communication procedures.

  • Maintain commitment to professional growth and competency.

  • Contribute to the efficient and productive operation of the assigned department.

Qualifications

Required

  • Required Master's Degree or equivalent in Speech-Language Pathology, with adequate course credentials

  • CRT-Speech Language Pathologist - ASHA American Speech-Language-Hearing Association required

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association required Or

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross required
