Heavy Equipment Operator in Cliffside, NC

  • Full-time position
  • Rotating Shift:
    • Working 7 days on / 7 days off
    • Rotating Days and nights every two weeks
    • 12 hour shifts - 6 am-6 pm/ 6 pm-6 am
    • Overtime
  • Pay Range $23 per hour

Savage is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator at our Cliffside, NC Operation. We are looking for a Coal System Equipment Operator who will be responsible for safely performing the basic tasks required to operate the coal handling system, operate industrial mobile equipment, and perform general maintenance on equipment and facilities at a coal-fired power plant. 

What You'll Be Doing 

  • Operate conveyor systems to transport coal in accordance with applicable safety practices
  • Railcar Switching 
  • Unload and reclaim limestone and coal
  • Maintenance, trouble shooting and repairing facilities, equipment and coal handling system
  • Perform routine clean-up and housekeeping
  • Complete daily safety inspection of equipment and facilities to ensure safe operations

What you'll need

  • Experience in operation of dozers, front-end loaders, excavators, locomotives and other heavy equipment
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English, follow written and/or verbal instruction, and possess basic math and computer skills  
  • Unload and reclaim limestone and coal 
  • Work with a team, take direction from supervisors(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
  • Must be willing to work any shift, including weekends, holidays and overtime as needed
  • 2-5 years of experience preferred but not required
  • Valid Drivers License

Here are some of the physical requirements for this role 

  • Work in an environment containing coal dust, hazardous noise, confined space, and in hot or cold environments
  • Work at heights, climbing stairs and climbing ladders
  • Walk on uneven ground and up to 3 miles per shift
  • Must be able to pass a fit test and pulmonary function test for the purposes of wearing a respirator and recertify annually or as needed
  • Lift up to 50 pounds frequently
