Job description

Position Summary

Seeking a CNC Swiss Screw Setup Machinist to join our precision manufacturing team in El Cajon, CA. This role is responsible for both setup and operation of Swiss-style CNC machines to produce small, high-precision components for business-critical applications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Swiss-type lathes, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to independently manage setups, troubleshoot issues, and ensure consistent part quality in a fast-paced production environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Swiss-style CNC machines to manufacture precision components.
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and setup sheets to ensure accurate machining and part conformance
  • Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine offsets for each job.
  • Perform first-article inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Monitor machine operations and make real-time adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve setup and machining issues independently.
  • Document setup procedures and best practices for repeatability and training purposes.
  • Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and quality personnel to optimize machining strategies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with 5S and safety standards.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and proactively report mechanical issues.
  • Mentor and support junior machinists and operators as needed.
  • Participate in Lean, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; technical training or certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of CNC machining experience, with at least 3 years operating and setting up Swiss-style CNC machines.
  • Strong experience with Citizen, Nakamura, Star, or Tsugami machines.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and GD&T.
  • Deep understanding of CNC controls, tooling, and machining principles.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and process control.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of setup and production outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts or overtime as needed.
