Our products are built on all of the expertise and experience we have amassed for generations. Our goal is to get a little bit better every single day as a team.

Primary Purpose of the Role

The CNC Mill-Turn Machine Setup Operator is responsible for independently setting up and operating CNC multi-axis mill-turn machines and robotic machine-tending systems to manufacture SCHUNK's world-class tooling, workholding, and automation products. Working in a modern, climate-controlled manufacturing environment, this position uses technical drawings, CNC programs, and setup documentation to produce high-precision components that meet exacting quality standards.

This role takes ownership of the machining process from setup through production, working closely with programmers and manufacturing support teams to improve efficiency, maximize machine utilization, and ensure consistent quality. Success in this position requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

What You Will Do

  • Install and qualify tooling, fixtures, workholding, and machine accessories for production runs.
  • Load, verify, and adjust CNC programs and machine offsets to achieve required dimensional specifications.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize robotic loading and unloading systems to support unattended and automated production.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks using precision measuring instruments.
  • Monitor machining operations and make process adjustments to maintain quality, cycle time, and productivity targets.
  • Support new product introductions, prove-outs, and process validation activities in collaboration with programmers and engineering personnel.
  • Diagnose and resolve machining, tooling, automation, and process-related issues to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain organized tooling, gauges, fixtures, and work areas to support efficient production.
  • Complete production, quality, and maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, safety, productivity, and cost reduction.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.

  • Understanding of machining fundamentals, feeds and speeds, tooling applications, and machining math.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and production issues independently.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications
