Job description

Job Title: Sous Chef
Department: Food and Beverage
Reports to: Executive Chef
The Sous Chef is responsible for ensuring that all meals coming from the kitchen are well prepared in terms of quality, consistency, eye appeal, taste, and food cost. He/she is expected to provide training for all staff, meet corporate quality standards; and assist in establishing and enforcing food specifications, portion control, recipes, and sanitation. The Sous Chef is also responsible for controlling food and labor costs while maximizing guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all meals are prepared and presented according to established quality, consistency, and brand standards.
  • Assist in training, coaching, and developing kitchen staff to meet corporate quality and safety standards.
  • Support the Executive Chef in establishing and enforcing food specifications, portion control, recipes, and sanitation practices.
  • Monitor food preparation and production to minimize waste and control food costs.
  • Assist with labor management while maintaining service excellence and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Anticipate, prevent, identify, and resolve operational or staff-related issues as they arise.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive or proprietary information.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of guests and team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Deliver consistent quality and service that enhances the overall guest experience

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
  • Advanced cooking skills, including proficient knife handling.
  • Basic math skills to adjust recipe quantities and manage portions.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Ability to work long and varied hours as business needs require.
  • Must be able to speak and read English; additional languages a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to evaluate complex information.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and crouching.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work safely around hot surfaces, open flames, steam, and sharp objects.
  • Tolerance for hot, humid, fast-paced, and sometimes crowded kitchen environments.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions efficiently and safely.
