A weekend catering assistant helps with food preparation and kitchen operations during an event. In this part-time role, you work with a catering company on Saturdays and Sundays. Specific job duties vary, depending on the needs of your employer and the types of food ordered by the client. General responsibilities may include chopping and slicing ingredients, preparing food, loading the food into the transport vehicle, unloading food and equipment at the venue, and transferring the food to the serving dishes. Depending on the type of event, you may serve the food buffet style, or you may walk around the event, passing out appetizers to guests. Once the event is over, you help tear down the catering equipment, take it back to the catering kitchen, and clean the dishes.
